Geno walks in 5 minutes and signs her with UCONN like some others that go to other elite schools that end up having less than stellar careers. Another one that got away from Indiana. She’s not that old. It just seems like because Moren started recruiting her in middle school and offered her a scholarship in 8th grade. She was one of those that was far more developed physically at that age and looked dominant, but was much less so when the other kids caught up to her physically. TTT 1 Quote
Aaron Posted April 13 Posted April 13 And we finally have a player of solid level who IU is involved with in portal. Moren works the portal very quietly and no one even knew IU was in on Scalia or Ciezki till they announced their commitments. This is why I want to see who the team announces is coming before panicking. Need to actually land her or 1-2 solid players, but lack of IU connection being reported with anyone is par for course. (Not land her or one or two others) but land her PLUS very impactful big and impactful point guard. There, I fixed it. Quote
Class of '66 Old Fart Posted April 13 Author Posted April 13 We must be close to an announcement. Skim Milkey just posted this mamasa 1 Quote
Aaron Posted April 13 Posted April 13 I tried to tell everyone that Moren works quietly in portal and you often wont know till day of when she gets someone. First solid level Big Ten starter out of portal since Shay and far better than anyone out of there last year outside Z. Would like 1-2 more players of this level. However, we won’t know IU is in on someone until they commit. We need to stop worrying that national media isn't linking IU to any good names. Moren runs a tight ship. There are players linked to IU as possibilities. You are right not national media. This one is a solid impact player and runs the floor and finishes. Quote
TTT Posted April 14 Posted April 14 Add Runner and an impactful big and IU Ladies would be ready to roll. Quote

The era of twin bigs is long over and one would have to back up the other and not sure either would go for this. Also, Merkle is very slow which I am not sure fits Moren’s system. Don’t get me wrong, Merkle is a load inside and a legit high end post player. Just not sure how her speed in general and fit with Big Z work at moment. TTT 1 Quote
mickey one Posted April 15 Posted April 15 Portal basically is insane at the moment. Teams have to go get 6+ players, and have only a few weeks (functionally) to do it--contact, invite, visit, decide on $ offer, get results, balance with dozens of other players on the market, to decide who to go after, and see who is interested. Wow. Ordinarily, a school has several years to contact and evaluate players coming up from high school, make offers, wait for decisions. With the portal, it's a few weeks at best. I don't know how teams can be expected to make this happen, and, sometimes, year-after-year! This process desperately needs to be stabilized. The President's proposal was to limit portal entries (with no waiting period) to ONE per player. Any portal entry after that requires sitting out for one year. Don't know the legal mechanics (Congressional legislation?), but it needs to be that, in order to restore some sanity and stability to the process. Quote
LamarCheeks Posted April 16 Posted April 16 Guessing we're interested in her as a bench piece. She played two seasons at Marquette, then spent two at Iowa State. In her first year at Iowa State, she played 10 games before taking a medical redshirt -- that's how she has a year left. mamasa 1 Quote

Perhaps she was hurt in one of those and was able to get a redshirt? From the Iowa State website: 2024-25 Appeared in Iowa State’s first 10 games of the season and made eight starts before announcing plans to medically redshirt on Dec. 11 due to a preexisting hip injury… averaged 8.3 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game… knocked down 17 3-pointers and was 14-of-17 (.824) from the free throw line… made three triples in three-straight contests against UNI (Nov. 20), Drake (Nov. 24) and South Carolina (Nov. 28), finishing each game in double figures. mamasa 1 Quote
Class of '66 Old Fart Posted April 16 Author Posted April 16 Indiana's Miss Basketball 5'11" Gracyn Gilliard of Center Grove announced she's decommitted from Davidson. I don't show in my notes that we ever actively pursued her but could be a different attitude/approach now. mamasa 1 Quote
