Class of '66 Old Fart

IUBB vs Lindenwood - Thursday, 11.20.25 @ 6:00 on BTN

Recommended Posts

We are exactly what this roster was/is.

Not sure why anyone would be surprised.

The ceiling on this group was always very low.

The floor was the question mark which seems to remain so.

I wanted Conerway to be a better shooter. I wanted R.Bailey to be Cody Zeller extra Lite.

 Wilkerson, DeVries as anticipated.

 Alexis better than anticipated.

 Sisley better than anticipated.

Dorn, Mike’s less than anticipated.

But it’s exactly what is was.

At least We have a coach that demands and knows ball. Has always wished he’d created a better roster but it is what it is.

My biggest concern last night was these guys are having some riffs with each other if you watch body language. It’s kinda odd. Miles wants more minutes. Dorn probably wants more. Wilkerson is in a funk. DeVries looks incredibly slow but he mostly finds a way.

For this team to be its best the chemistry needs to be top notch. Every player needs to be his best. We lack in size, speed, strength.

But we are 5-0 so far. But plenty of concerning signs emerging.

Despite the 2 bad games in a row  iu is viewed as a ncaa tourney team by the national media.  From my own perspective even though it’s early and from what I’ve seen from the rest of college basketball IU is around 6 to 7 seed.   Outside of Purdue, Sparty and Illinois no other B1G team has stood out and separated themselves from IU.  Before the season there were some on here that pointed out IU wasn’t even in the Rothstein 45 and would be a border line tourney team or on the outside looking in.  Going to have ups and downs but despite 2 clunker games against low level competition you could argue IU is in a better position then most thought.   Still being top 25 kenpom team after a couple of down games is encouraging.   IU wasn’t going to have 30 games that were going to be a net positive in the efficiency category.  Bad games happen

You forgot ranked Wisconsin!!

Bad games won’t happen to Wisconsin!

It’s so easy to throw out negative handwringing after a bad game or two, and disregard the prior games. This IU team is not suddenly defined by the clunker game we just played. A lot of ball to be played and so far there’s still every reason to think we’re a tournament team in DeVries’ first season.

I’m optimistic. We have experienced players, shooting and a very good coach. Gotta get through the downs and expect the ups.

I agree with most of this other than the ceiling.  When you have a team that can shoot, the ceiling is as high as they can shoot, any given night.

Im not a betting man, but DDV is a coach I would bet to get us back to where us Gen Xers think we should be!

That would be squarely within expectations for me based off of what good coaches did last year. Anything between a 5 and 9 seed seems solid for a first year coach with good NIL with a brand new roster in year 1. B1G is doing well noncon so we should have plenty of chances.

IMO this is a nothing burger. None of these guys have played a full season together, and I don't think it's out of the ordinary for some players to be that way when they aren't playing well.

Noteworthy.  Guys were loving each other when we were playing well.  Just some easily noticeable body language that included poor effort by some.  Will have to see if this is a snowball or a snowflake.

Lack of ball movement like we had in the first games, lack of effort and lack of movement have me more concerned. Those you can control. We will struggle with rebounding but losing the other controllable things will need quick correction.

Love the fact that we have a coach who doesn't look befuddled for all 40 minutes and has some fire on the bench. Not afraid to call out officiating either.

I'm not sure we're watching the same team.  Devries seems very accepting of the officiating to me.  If he's blown up at a ref I've missed it
