Hoosier Hoops On Kirkwood - October 2nd

Outside? In the Street? Are you kidding me ? Why?

Nah I would rather step foot I. Assembly Hall any chance I get.    HH was a chance for many families to take their whole family into the building for free and take in the atmosphere when they might not have the financial means to take their family to an actual game.   I will still take my family to a game but I have no interest in watching something outside on a Thursday night from 8-10 when I got to work the next morning and my kids have school in the morning.   It’s a pass for me

A new event, replacing Hoosier Hysteria, happening on Kirkwood Ave on October 2nd.

I don’t hate the idea of taking it a different direction, but 2 things: 1) Don’t love it on a week night. Somebody from Indy or Louisville taking their 10yo down there on a school night? 2) Not sure about having to rely on dry weather the 2nd week in October.

Sticking this on Kirkwood basically screams "not a family event" to me...and I'm assuming anyone else that's ever been to Kirkwood on a Thursday night. I'm pretty indifferent to Hysteria/preseason events these days, but on the surface this is a very strange direction to go in like five different ways.

I basically don't like this.

HH / Midnight Madness is tradition, it's been in the Hall like forever, and it's an entire Bloomington/community event. AND, it's a practice scrimmage - usually - when we get to see the team play even though it's a short practice scrimmage thing. That's always fun and a chance to see what the guys look like on the floor.

It might be cool to have a big event on Kirkwood, but imo it shouldn't replace HH.

but change is change. oh well

edit/side note - unless I missed it on quick review, the article doesn't actually say it replaces HH. It says the teams are kicking off the season with this new event. Are we sure it replaces HH?

Rabjohns is saying that as far as he knows there will still be a scrimmage in Assembly Hall, just without all other HH stuff that has traditionally been a part of that.

That's good to hear --and why I was looking for clarification. Hopefully we'll get more info on this soon as we're already approaching mid-September.

I’m really kind of sick over this. I’ve attended Hoosier Hysteria dating back to Midnight Madness. I went with my grandparents, then parents, to taking my own kids. As someone above said, any chance to get in The Hall is welcomed, and was an event that gave everyone a chance to at least be there and see the team. Sad.

I started going when RMK was still here and he actually ran a full practice at midnight.

To tell you the truth the Hoosier Hysteria started to get old and stale and wasn't very entertaining. I haven't been since Woodson's first year

I somewhat agree it getting stale, but to me, that was the result of Archie’s personality. I’m a firm believer in that some traditions need to remain, just evolve a little. To me, this is the equivalent of losing the stripes, or putting names on the jersey. I completely understand those wanting a change, but it’s not for me

Wait, wait, wait... you expect us to believe that Archie Miller has a personality!? I call BS.
