Puerto Rico Trip 8/5 - 8/12

Recommended Posts

Bored so I pulled up Mega Superbet's roster and don't know about guard play but they are loaded in the front court--

Bogoljub Markovic-6'11" #47 draft pick of the Bucks. Played well in Summer League but they opted to stash him at Superbet for ayear

Lazar Gacic-6'10"- Demo's guy from the Serbian national team

Luigi Suigo-7'3"- Prospect from Spain who visited IU back in June

We will have our hands full and should learn alot about playing against size. Sort of a Big Ten preview.

A bunch of young talent is always going in and out of Mega. It's a good spot for the young Serbian players to get early playing time before they either test the NBA waters or they are shipped off to the Serbian giants Partizan or Crvena Zvevda.

Good video from Zach -- summarizes the big picture goals for IUBB in Puerto Rico and how it's gone so far.

32 assists

33 attempted 3’s

Pace

Spacing

The style of play and chemistry is already starting to show. So so much better strategically and skill based than we’ve since Crean’s teams.

The “not a sh!t show train wreck” standard has been the low-low bar to clear.

Having a real live college hoops coach has its upside!

Well, we had a real live college hoops coach in CAM. But the sh!t show train wreck was in full effect lol. Thank G we finally have a real live modern system running shooting inspired coach with a demonstrated track record of improving DI programs, and with actual personality!

good to know, but atleast Harris took advantage of the situation and made some things happen

He did but I wouldn't pay too much attention to individual stats, good or bad. They were out enjoying activities like kayaking during the day, did no game prep, and Rabby says that after watching film the team was more like a D3 team than even NAIA. A good game is obviously better than a bad one but I don't think individual stats are telling in any way in these games.

Trevor Andershock says that while Suigo is on the team, he's not expected to be there for the IU games. That's too bad, it would have been a nice chance for a little recruiting.

The roster from their website that I saw does not have Gacic or Suigo.

I think it’s not especially informative to measure individual IU players’ performance against that opposition… but…

I think it can be informative to measure individual IU players’ performance compared to their IU teammates.

For instance, Alexis appeared to be a more featured, impactful player than Harris, even though both put up similar numbers against the opponent. Sisley apparently looked far more confident and mature than Miles.

Anyway, with BC Mega likely consisting of quite a few older players I’m guessing that we drop a game against them and then there is panic on our board.

I for one will not be panicking, the results of this preseason foreign competition tour do not matter for the actual season. This group has had 10 official practices together unless I'm mistaken. It would be surprising to me if they beat a group of guys that have been together longer than that / much more experience with the format of play. The usefulness of the trip is totally about building some chemistry in the locker room and for the staff to get an idea of what needs to be prioritized between now and November. See what the dynamic is when they're actually competing against another group of guys and not just each other in practice. Sure I'm preaching to the choir on this though

Yeah, this trip is basically the same as a new AAU team going on the road for a tournament lol. The off court stuff is just as significant as the on court stuff IMO considering it's August. They've had a chance to get to know each other but they're about to go into battle together (pardon the cliché) when the fall semester starts.

Theres a lot to figure out chemistry wise and bonding now + DDV's culture should hopefully = a team that plays hard for each other and because they want to win. Not just showcase themselves for the NBA.

Been too long since we've had Hoosier basketball. And the only thing I'm taking away from scrimmaging the PR school (which may as well be a crew from the HPER) is that we should be fun to watch on offense at least.

At least it’s basketball, without hearing how poor Caitin is getting pushed around.
