Pretty strange recruitment for a player rated so highly. Purdue has heavily recruited him for the better part of two years and has made him their #1 priority. Doesn't have a great offer list but does include one from hometown Tennessee whom I can guess Rod Clark has a prior relationship. Definitely get the vibe he's waiting on his recruitment to pick up and subsequently why he hasn't committed to Painter.

This might be a short recruitment.

Though Thompson had originally planned to make a decision in July or August, he told KSR+ that his timeline may be accelerating.

“I think I’m going to speed it up a little bit and commit in May or June,” he said. “I’m not entirely sure yet. I really don’t know.”

He has been recruited by Rod Clark for a year and a half so IU may have a chance. He does say that loyalty is important to him. Purdue has been recruiting him hard for a while though.

He's planning on visiting Louisville and Tennessee in the next few weeks and wants to visit IU so it looks unlikely a decision will come before June.

3SSB is not providing detailed box score info without coughing up megabucks.  They provided a 4-game average for the first event in early May and now have provided an 8-game average for the two May events.  Really interesting to me that his FG shooting % and his 3-point shooting % are almost mirror images of his 24-25 high school season which had to consist of 20+ games.

For anyone that has seen him play, how does he compare to Sisley?

Rabjohns was asked the same question. His response was that at the same stage they are similar rebounders. Thompson is the better 3-point shooter and better off the bounce. Sisley was more rugged and physical.

Indications are he's going to commit to Iowa and re-class to '25.  PUke and Pork Chop have heavily recruited him.

Thanks for sharing. I’m very concerned about going against McCollum and Iowa for the foreseeable future, especially if he starts landing players of this caliber with any regularity. Hopefully we get to see some really good battles between our teams over the years.

McCollum was the guy I really wanted. He seemed to me to be most like Coach Cignetti from the cutting edge thinking standpoint. I think he will do well at Iowa and be a pain in our back side until he gets a better job. That being said, our coach has my full support until he proves he doesn't deserve it. I think CDD will be good for IU.

Not only getting a 4 star recruit to Iowa, but nabbing a guy Matt Painter spent years on? Yeah, McCollum is going to be a problem.

Yup. I always felt concerns about McCollum's ability to recruit at this level were way overblown. The Thompson recruitment alone doesn't dissuade those concerns, but I think it's a sign of things to come with McCollum at Iowa.

Going to be a big problem for the rest of the B10. I like DDV a lot and think he's going to raise the standard for IUBB. I'm hoping we get good battles between these guys and Dusty. New blood in the conference should be fun.

He’s going to appeal to certain kids, but plenty won’t want to play his style or go to Iowa to play.  JMHO. :) Kids still have NBA aspirations.  Does he appeal to them?  We’ll see.
