I wanted a central way to look our new roster's stats/metrics and thought others may find the same view interesting.

Probably going to tinker with some filters / formats for scanability. May add some more columns so happy to take requests.

If I have time later, I will add comparison points to show where their stats compare vs. CBB average / leaders.

2025-2026 IUMBB Roster Overview  All stats come from sports-reference.com. Five tabs at the top:

  • Player rank/overview
  • Last year basic stats
  • Last year advanced stats
  • Career shooting
  • Career advanced stats

Not interested in debating the validity of some of the advanced stats (BPM and WS have known flaws).

The main ones I pay attention to are eFG%/TS%, TOV%, Free Throw Rate (FTr), and DRB% / ORB%

That career shooting % tab is impressive

Being both an engineer and a finance guy...I get a kick out of statistics....and comparisons of the same.  I also know that it is a snapshot and not reality.  Thank you for putting this together and sharing.

Having said all of that...now for the big question.  What do you make of this?

And how much time did you take putting it together?

Can't wait for the season to start to evaluate if the coach was successful in meshing gym rats with a hungry chip on their shoulders with sharing the ball with good basketball IQs.  Feeling it a little...

The biggest thing that sticks out to me is.

2 weeks ago we had 1 player, now we have 10. Keep up the good work.

I added some color coding to make it a little easier to get insight at a glance.

Going to continue tinkering with this as we finalize the class and hopefully the finished product will be more informative.

In terms of what I make of this so far, nothing really new per se. We have pretty dang solid shooting. Overall, I feel good but mildly skeptical about defense and rebounding because those are fairly big question marks on paper right now.

I'm not personally too concerned about that though because A) take some of those advanced metrics with a big grain of salt B) I think DDV's filtering for intensity / work ethic C) While some obvious question marks with guys translating up a level, I do think there's going to be decent size and length on the roster when it's said and done. Athleticism is a little bit of a question I think. Still three spots to fill. DDV should be able to work it out.

I think Conerway could be a fan favorite. He was third overall in SPG last year in CBB. He's currently got the second highest ORB% rate (which is lower than you'd want your 2nd best ORB to be, but is pretty good for a guard I think) so I think we're going to really appreciate his playmaking and hustle.

Very curious about the minute split between him and Enright (I have a strong-ish preference after looking at this data) and between Miles / Dorn. If we are going to exceed expectations this year I think at least one of them has to be a more than solid contributor. We really need Conerway and Bailey to translate. I think DeVries and Wilkerson will be great as expected.

Note to Coach DeVries... stay away from the police officers and trash cans. It's not worth the hassle.

Signed,

A Former IU Coach

Also a good idea to keep your rear end inside the bus window....

Jason Drake on ISB radio earlier this morning said that Indiana will be taking an international trip to Puerto Rico sometime this August

wasn’t sure where to put this

Oof... as a basketball trip it might be good, but Puerto Rico in August is a significantly worse trip than Europe in August, Canada in August, or Puerto Rico from November through May.

I wish the BTN would tag along like the SEC network did for UK a while back. Honestly, I’d settle for a radio style play by play broadcast streamed through the IU athletics website if that’s the best we could get.

Been to Puerto Rico twice.  Once in the U.S.Navy and once on our honeymoon.  Down there in September and wondered why there were so many vacancies.  (Spoiler alert: hot and elevated chance of a serious storm...Hurricane season is June through November.)    Like other places down there, they have been rocked by multiple hurricanes.  Still having issues with electrical power grid outages, rebuilding and disparity in opportunities for people.

Although it did not stop us from hitting the beaches, checking out old San Juan, visiting the impressive fort, getting to the rain forest and immersing in the countryside and some culture.  Did not go to the Bacardi Rum Distillery/factory.  Just go out early and siesta afternoon, then go out late.

I was reflecting on the goodwill that IU had because of RMK and the referees and the police.  Also, politics are not really favorable.  If anyone is really wanting to learn about Puerto Rico and the other islands/countries and their relations with the USA...read something about the sugar cane plantations and importing slaves from elsewhere.  The islands still have not fully recovered from the sugar companies' exploitation economy, human rights and politics.

My daughter and SIL are down there for 5 days at a business conference.  Will get a report about their impressions, very soon.  Even thinking of going down for our 50th wedding anniversary family trip.

Regardless, it will likely be an education for the athletes and a positive growth opportunity for the team.

Have gone to Puerto Rico multiple times. It's a great island to vacation at -- spring preferably, off-season. We've stayed at Villa Montana a couple of times, absolutely beautiful with villas literally on the white sand beach, ocean rolling in, great surfing etc. nearby, can ride horses on the beach and back trails, flat out wonderful vacation.

Link to Villa Montana for any interested: https://www.villamontana.com/?sjrncid=GA_10958215615&sjrnaid=GA_594930659653&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADLqsW9LDw1_uy0RSvZtszUG1o03g&gclid=Cj0KCQjwzrzABhD8ARIsANlSWNM3UVHCmWXvE44P6umGSbFSih65OG7DAVU23hhJUUBjeLkaeJv86cIaAv1REALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

So how does everyone feel if we add Harris and Curtis and call it day?   It would be two additional bigs and they would have multiple years left.

I'd feel like we put together a roster that was absolutely, flat-out capable of winning at a high level, and then it will be up to our coaching staff to instill culture, development, work ethic, and scheme that effectuates that winning.

BTW; while I'd be really happy if we picked up Curtis, as a freshman he would very likely be a back of the bench kid. Sam Alexis or Reed Bailey are likely to be far better equipped to guard grown-man posts than a tall, skinny freshman.

I would be pretty pissed if we ultimately leave a scholarship open. There is no advantage to that.

my understanding from others on here is that we are keeping one open for Goode.  If he doesn't get cleared, then the staff would likely have a backup plan.

it makes no difference to me whether Goode is on the team or not...

But, 13 schollies... fill them

Seems we're getting closer to being able to have an opinion on the team. Wonder what people think of this assessment.

Assuming the starting lineup will be something like this:

STARTERS

Tayton Conerway

Lamar Wilkerson

Luke Goode

Tucker DeVries

Reed Bailey

BENCH

Connor Enright

Jason Drake

Nick Dorn

Jasai Miles

Sam Alexis

Seems like a team that should be decent to good at perimeter defense, and average to decent at interior defense. It is a real question mark if Tucker DeVries is the closest thing in the starting lineup you have to a rim protector. Bailey has size but just has not been a threat at all to block/alter shots. I think if this team wants to be good on defense, that a lot will rely on Sam Alexis living up to his promise, and playing a lot of minutes.

Offensively, they look like they could be lethal; literally could be the best volume 3pt% team since Crean. Assembly Hall is starved for that style of play, and so I think the ingredients are there for a special season in terms of fan support if everything breaks right. Just that a couple of those defensive question marks could hold back this team from its full potential.

Looking forward to the year!
