Just noting that $7M NIL + rev share isn’t good.  I hope it’s much higher and I think it will be.

I guess it depends on how much of their revenue share other schools are committing to men's basketball. IU's NIL was already very high. Revenue sharing is capped at $20.5M with a large chunk going to football and some of it needs to go to women's sports. I agree that about $2M of revenue share seems low, but we'll need to see how much it ends up being and how that compares to other schools.

That said, I think that $7M would already have them up there just like they were with NIL.

Edit: Old Farts post make sense that it's $7 in just NIL then more after rev share. I read it the same way you did.

There seems to be a lot of unhappy folks around there lately... this is for y'all:

I have a hunch that those most disappointed have been tuned out from IUBB entirely the last two years.
Anybody watching Woodys tenure knows just how far the staff, and some players, put us behind the 8 ball in most matchups.

And also expected us to hire whomever we wanted because *reasons*

Hope we can keep this kid. These Europeans have been lighting it up.

I heard he was a project at best and was Woody trying to lock someone down to shut down a narrative.  He can actually play?

“University of Indiana”…..after three years here???!!  LOL, LOL

I’d bet a decent pile of change that MR will be playing for Miami next season.

1. Called Stevens to make sure.

2. Would have loved Dusty, who wasn’t leaving UM after one year.

3. Gauged interest from Otz-nope.

4. Gauged interest from one of either Drew or McCasland—they were not moving for anyone.

The fifth choice? Also the numero uno top choice that was realistic and had any intention of leaving their current position.

Yep. Not saying this is what happened, but given the smoke with McCollum.

Thinking about the Goodman tweet... did McCollum put it out to see if Dolson's interest was legit/pressure Iowa? Did Dolson put it out there to tell his first choice (DeVries) to make up his mind or we will move on? Seems to me we had our choice and picked DeVries. Dolson has more information than me, so I've got no reservations being excited about this hire until he gives me a reason not to be.

He wasn’t even a realistic option until the NCAA spurned West Virginia.  In 24 hours Dolson decided this was our move for the next 6 years.

I think I’m with you there. Whatever you think of Devries, and I’m cautiously optimistic*, it really looks and feels like Dolson had no plan or wasn’t able to execute the one that he had.

We’ll get the university puff pieces in a few days and can probably read between the lines enough to piece together a realistic narrative.

*Im underlining and notating this so people don’t get their feelings hurt: lots to like about Devries moving forward

Dolson must have alot of confidence in Devries to give him such a nice contract that assuming will go up with success

Agreed... would love to see the incentive structure of the contract...

Agreed. It would be so much easier to get Mullins to flip if he was committed pretty much anywhere other than the 2-time defending champions.

Hurley is the best coach in the country. That's probably an insurmountable obstacle for nearly any coach.

Dude is also insane.  :)

DeVries will have hopefully 15ish successful years here then retire.

People will clamor for 63-year old Brad Stevens and lament us not signing him in 2025... or 2021...

RTZ posted that Trilly was wrong literally moments before it was confirmed by all the national outlets.

That's called trolling and gets called out when it's done by Isaac.

RTZ has a "reputation" so he gets a pass for being wrong? No, he's trolling.

He somehow never has time to be around the boards except to post gifs then do the whole tantrum thing...

People can mock it. Who cares.

So petty along with others on here. If any one thinks we met with Brad once early on I don’t know what to tell you. This place sucks.

Yea.  I misread that tweet — it meant $7M for just NIL and then the rev share on top of that, and we are planning to be 2x the conference average on rev share.  With that clarification it makes sense and I think our total player payroll number is fantastic.

The difference?

Anthony Leal wrote his own damn going away letter, and it was from the heart.

Malik is a nice enough kid, but it’s pretty likely that his agent wrote that for him and let it fly.

University of Indiana. Buh Bye 4 Eva.

We don’t know this at all. It’s entirely likely that DDv has been near the top of Dolson’s list the last two weeks. Him missing the tournament sped up discussions that might have already been happening.

Not reading all of the 30 pages before here, so I’m sure this was said somewhere/somehow.

while not someone I expected/wanted, he is now our coach and we all should throw our full support behind him.  Give him to to implement his system and get players he wants. I don’t think we need to compare him to other first year coaches in the conference (a la May) that many wanted at the end of last season.

from what I’ve read (and again, was probably stated here) dude knows ball, is a grinder and won’t be outworked.  Learned for a long time under really good coaches. Has a history of winning.

lets get behind him and hopefully reap the benefits of this hire for years to come

You've watched the film?  Stats can be very misleading for a lot of reasons.

There are a few highlights tapes on YouTube if you're interested.

Obviously it was. Ability to pay top 10 money and top 10 nil and can’t attract a proven winning coach.  Quite impressive really.  Would have much rather rolled with Cronin and he wasn’t my top pick.  Eric said he would have been interested.  Just a bungled efffort by Dolson.

We paid the second biggest buyout ever to get Devries according to Osterman. Pope was first last year. Both were around the $6 million dollar rank. McCasland’s buyout alone would have broke the record by $2 million.
