Another 2nd stop? Roy. KU to UNC. Worked out ok

IU isn't Drew's alma mater though. I would be more than happy to get him, but I agree with Stuhoo that the story wouldn't knock your socks off.

Butler grad though and lived in Indiana for over 20 years.

Not much different than Brad.

Coaches move, I don’t see the basis for angst, now we want a first time great coach? This just isn’t a factor for me, and Drew would be returning to IN where he’s from fwiw

Not sure where you're getting angst from my post. He would be a great hire.

What am I missing? Is drew a good coach? Yes. Is a a home run? 20 plus year career at the same school and 1 final four and 1 championship. This isn't a home run hire. Imo

I mean can we use our heads.  There is no coach out there we could get with a NC and in your opinion he isn’t a home run?

Drew has a national championship. He is clearly an excellent coach.

But the operative question is not who has won a championship; it’s who will win a championship.

So I’d take Otz over Drew.

edit: my use of "I'd take" lol. Of course, I'd be happy with either.

2020- Ap top 5 (projected 1 seed)
26-4(15-3) tourney cancelled

2021- NET- 2 (1 seed)
28-2(13-1) National champion
2022– NET-5 (1 seed)
27-7 (14-4) round of 32
2023- NET-15 (3 seed)
23-11(11-7) round of 32
2024- NET- 15 (3 seed)
23-11(11-7) round of 32
Q1 record 50-38 in the last 4 years

For a middle of the pack High major team that is 20 or more games under .500 in their conference for the last 5 years getting a coach like Drew would not only be a home run hire it would be the steal of all of college basketball in the last 10 years.

Drew has never finished worse than 15 in the NET since it has been used.  He is currently having his worse year in his last 5 years  and he is NET 30.   For reference IU best finish was 30 in Woodys second year.  Other than that you are looking at a program that finishes in the 50s and was in the 90s last year.
Thanks lol. I knew I could count on you guys to get me pointed in the right direction. We can definitely do worse

Same.  Though I suspect after his intro presser I would get all excited and optimistic as I always do with a new coach.  He has won it all I will tell myself.

On one hand I’m not very excited about Drew as our coach but on the other hand winning a Natty at Baylor is beyond impressive.
I don’t really remember much about that team. Did he have a Wade type talent, ala Crean, or was it something else?

Natty is very impressive but this will be his third year in a row with at least 7 conference losses. NIL issues, something else?

EDIT: Just looked at his yearly results, at Baylor, and saw that his first season was 20003-2004. Since that time he has taken BAYLOR, to the Elite 8 three times vs. zero for IU during that time frame.  I’m still not that thrilled but he has certainly done some positive things at a historically putrid program.

Davion Mitchell Jared Butler were great college guards. They had good defensive bigs that swatted everything too. Flo Bamba and Tchatchoua(sure I misspelled this)

Tbh i usually push back at the notion that our fans are crazy or we have unrealistic expectations but seeing people not excited over Scott drew has me questioning that. We have not been a good program the last 20 years. Pulling a coach that has won a natty before would be the coup of the century. I wanted him last search before woody and he went and won a title. I’d be ecstatic to get drew because we’d be consistently great again

Drew would be a homerun hire. He's won at Baylor, in a state where football recruiting is more important than basketball. I for one would love to see what he could do in a state where basketball is king.

This, but even then you’re underselling it. lol..

Baylor had went to the tournament 4 times in their entire history, and that’s largely because they had a nice little run in the late 40s. They had been to the tournament just once since it expanded to at least 32 teams. Baylor basketball was a wasteland before Drew and that’s not even diving into scandal right before he took over.

What he built there is nothing short of amazing.

I don’t know what that would mean for IUs future but Drew’s resume on that rebuild just about dwarfs any other candidate’s.
