I've been shaking my head for going on FOUR YEARS now. The basketball program is a train wreck, and Woodson, the Parasite in Chief, has been leading the parade. Clueless. Embarrassing. Lazy. Incompetent.

Now, do you want to know what I really think?

As well as I…let’s hear it

I heard there were about 7k at the game. It’s getting bad. Hell the Crean years of playing walkons meaningful minutes was nowhere near this bad. I think we were still selling out. This program is laughable. That pains me to say. I can honestly say, it feels like a task to watch a game anymore.

That is pitiful if true.

I had to implore my wife not to buy me tickets this year, as every season she wants to spring for great seats and a weekend in Bloomington for us. Yeah this is not the year honey.

Well, just have a look at my posting history on the subject.

Basically, he's an incompetent parasite.

Quote

parasite /păr′ə-sīt″/ (noun)

  • An organism that lives and feeds on or in an organism of a different species and causes harm to its host.
  • One who habitually takes advantage of the generosity of others without making any useful return.
  • One who lives off and flatters the rich; a sycophant.
  • He played here 40+ years ago.
  • He had a mediocre career as an NBA coach (lifetime winning percentage of .463).
  • He had ZERO coaching experience as a college coach.
  • Would never have been considered for the head coaching job except that he played here 40+ years ago and was best friends with the Board of Trustees chair (W Quinn Buckner).
  • He could not land a coaching job anywhere in the NBA or college, but somehow got $4M/year from Buckner to coach at Indiana.
  • He had demonstrated ZERO interest in recruiting high school athletes (building relationships with HS coaches, AAU coaches, HS athletes and their parents, watching HS or AAU games without being told to do so by the AD, etc)
  • He relies on the deep pockets of donors to bail out his non-existent recruiting with NIL and portal players.
  • Even after getting the talent, he demonstrates an inability to coach.
  • He refuses to coach and develop basic skills (blocking out, rebounding, modern offensive schemes, utilizing the 3-point shot, "hockey line changes" substitution patterns).
  • When he inevitably loses, he has a laundry list of canned excuses (the hump, gotta work harder, still getting to know one another, it's not my job to get them shots, Mike Woodson doesn't miss those shots).
  • Spews hubris and egotistical attitude towards fans ("true fans", "I"m not going anywhere", refusing to answer questions from the media "not going to sit here and answer questions from you or the fans").
  • Has cast off every help that the university has given him to try to offset the lack of college coaching experience (Matta, Fife).
  • Surrounds himself with a staff of "yes" men who appear to be afraid to go against his self-realized omniscience (Matta, Fife, Howard).
  • Demonstrates pure distain for the other athletic programs at Indiana university (refuses to speak to other teams when invited by the coaches; thinks that Teri Moran and the women's basketball team should not be using the same facilities as the men's team).
  • Blew off at least one meeting with a recruit do sit in his "boys club" with is buddies to drink wine, smoke cigars, eat pizza and play card.
  • And probably another 50-100 reasons.

He just needs to go and we need to be rid of this arrogant, incompetent never-was as our head coach.

A person (in this case the coach) doesn’t know what he doesn’t know.  He personally, does know how to take advantage (not necessarily care of) all the financial gain and status given to him.  So what does it say about all the highly paid and high status decision makers that allow and surround such situations and circumstances.

Lately it just seems like we are shooting more threes just to shoot more threes.  Lot of deep shots that aren't taken with any offensive movement, just guys dribbling up the court and taking them.  Carlyle has been the biggest culprit.

Woodson doesn’t even know how to scheme for a perimeter game. It’s just si bizarre to me

This is so good and 100% spot on.  Haven’t watched a game since the Louisville debacle and haven’t been on here much either.  My calendar used to be scheduled around the games but I can’t stand the effort, the style we play, or our coaches ineptitude any longer.  Sad that it’s come to this.

Honestly I finally watch the game.  I thought our D in the 2nd half was better, Chattanooga is a hard team to defend against but like Race to the Top said, we are just taking 3’s just to be taking them and we had no offensive movement.  We do too much one on one dribbling and standing around on offense.  I think we had a scoring drought of almost 7 minutes, if we do that in the B10, we will lose most of our games

You are a better man than I. I watched about 10 minutes of the game live and could not take it... so many issues... turned it off... may not watch another minute of any game this season... low basketball IQ at every turn ... matador defense - players are consistently out of position ... and absolutely no offensive flow.

Well I’ve watched every game since about 1990, lol and I watched some terrible basketball over the last 20 + years and I think I’ve become numb to watching us play.  I think the Crean early years were worse than this; however, he didn’t have the personnel and finances that Woodson has now.  I will continue to watch and suffer through the rest of the season.  We have the personnel to win but that giant boat anchor of a parasite coach on the sidelines is holding us back.  I will watch every painful minute until he is gone.

More power to you. I used to be like you but lack of success has made me spend time doing other things now.

I am there now too.  In the past I never would tape a game, I altered my schedule so I could watch every game live.  This past Saturday, I told my wife that I would tape the game so we can go to IRP to watch A Christmas Carol, eat an early dinner at Weber Grill, and go to the Indy Zoo to look at lights.  In the past, I would have scheduled it on a different day and it took me until today to actually watch the game and I wasn’t rushing to watch it. This is the 3rd game I’ve taped this year, something I’ve never done and I am not looking at their schedule to see when their next game is.  Heck, most of the time my wife asked me when their next game is, I have to look it up.  So I’m am getting real close to not watching at all.  I really hate taping games too

You should enter the 21st century and use a DVR.  Nobody "tapes" anymore.   :)

Sounds like you have an awesome wife. Wish we could say the same about our coach.

Ha, ha, ha!  I recorded it, lol!  I stand corrected!  In my defense, I grew up before VCR’s and I had a black and white television in which I watch Gomer Pyle, Batman, Dennis the Menace, Munsters, Gunsmoke, etc….  Yes, I’m much older than VCR’s and now we have DVR’s or whatever it is called because it’s built into my DirectTV streaming.  At least I’m streaming now and I have a IPhone and not a rotary phone, lol.

Merry Christmas!!!! :)

You and me both, although I came on after the B&W TV.  But remember the first VCRs -- we thought it was so cool.  And getting yelled at for taping over something.  I still have the tapes down in the basement.

Yes, those were the days everything was simple.  I remember the first video game I ever had, I think it was called Pong!  Lol
