Class of '66 Old Fart

IUBB vs Miami (OH) - Friday, 12.06.24 @ 7:00 on BTN

Recommended Posts

After last night's drubbing of "Remember The Alamo" we host Miami (5-2) Friday night.  No, not the one in Florida but the one in Oxford, OH.  Their 2 losses have been 81-68 to Wright State and 94-67 to Michigan.  They're currently on a 3-game winning streak.

Keep the excitement down, fans.

Coach Woody is changing his approach to the offense.  Right?

IU is going to keep turnovers down, get rebounds, defend and share the ball.  1 big plays at a time, generally.  And no hockey platooning at 8 minutes to kill the mo.  Right?

Just win big.

The last game against slamming Sammy Houston may have been the least that Woody has played two bigs together in his 3+ years at IU. And it was effective.

Believe there were only 13 mins where Ballo and Reneau shared the court. More of that would be good.

Wasn’t reneau in foul trouble or was that a different game?

We obviously have the players to have 2 separate styles of play. We have two 5's one that is excellent in half court low block old school half court pound it in basketball and the other that can get up and down and pass the ball out of the high post. You can't play defense with Goode and Mgbako on the floor together so which one makes more sense to pair with Reneau? I say Goode is the better half court player so put Mgbako with Reneau and Goode with Ballo. Play Rice at the point with Mgbako and Reneau, The Gambler at the point with Goode and Ballo. Tucker, Leal, Carlyle, Newton.....mix in with both groups. I'm talking about two 3 guard offenses that can defend. We could successfully do this when most teams only have one way to play. With the size of our guards I wouldn't be adverse to trying 4 guard line-ups around either of our bigs.

We need to win 12 conference games and at least 1 in the BTT to make the tournament. Until I see Woody start something that splits the bigs and Mgbako/Goode I have zero faith we can get that done.
