With Cherry now questionable, there’s gotta be a Jack Tuttle type who is willing to take more $ to be a backup than starting for Sam Houston St. I’m not asking for much in terms of talent…weren’t we just linked to the WSU QB before he decided to return?

Maybe not

Yeah, not saying he has to be of that high quality. But somebody who’s played at lower levels and can run the offense if our primary guy goes down.
Who’s our #2 right now?

Assuming Cherry is out next season, the depth chart at QB:

  1. F. Mendoza
  2. A. Mendoza
  3. Bell

An experienced backup would be very welcome.

I think Alberto Mendoza is #2 right now.  Yet to be seen who is #2 when Tyler Cherry is healthy but sounds like he could be out awhile.

The # of roster able players is changing.  NCAA changed it to 105 players which is about 20 less than now BUT they didn't put a limit of the number of those players that are on scholarship, so a team could put 105 on scholly.  The SEC is sticking to the 85 scholarship limit....not sure what the Big Ten is doing.

That goes into effect next season, right?

I think that even though they don't all have to be on scholarship, they do all have to get some profit share or something like that. I thought no more walk-ons. They can also do partial scholarships, it'll no longer be a headcount sport.

That the SEC is limiting it to 85 scholarships is probably because to increase the number of football scholarships they'd also need to increase the number of women sport scholarships and/or cut scholarships in other men's sports due to Title IX.

“Former Ohio State offensive tackle Zen Michalski is expected to transfer to Indiana“

let’s go!

High ceiling.  Was ranked as the 21st best OT out of high school and was the second highest rated recruit out of Indiana.

Did not get in many games for Ohio State.  This season he saw 158 snaps.  Started one game this season (against Nebraska).  Came in midway through the game the first time OSU played Oregon.  Returned back to the bench after suffering an injury against Nebraska.  PFF gave him a solid run blocking grade this season but a poor pass blocking grade.

He did not play very well against Nebraska. Let’s hope Bostad can get the best out of him the way he did with Wedig who had a phenomenal year.

Old Dominion QB Grant Wilson Has committed to Indiana. There’s the answer to a couple debates, IU needed a backup qb and found one!

Kind of a curious background. Was at Fordham for 2 years and barely played. Transferred UP into the Sun Belt and started from day 1. Huh, don’t hear that one every day. Looks like he had the best game of his career against Cig/JMU in ‘23. 26-36 for 277 with 2 td’s no picks. So the staff and a bunch of the JMU kids have certainly seen him up close.
