Before I get jumped on….yes I know we sucked last year.

That being said, and agreed upon, we did win by 16 today. Last year we only won one out of conference game by that amount (North Alabama by 17). From a metric standpoint I would guess we are off to a better start (as we should be).

Just jumped about 10 spots in KenPom…up to 32. Off to a much better start.

Going to rewatch when I’m less distracted by these rugrats but solid margin victory. Not sure how good SCar will be but a win is always good. Plenty of room for improvement as there should be in November and plenty of stuff to be encouraged about too. Look forward to Atlantis to give us a real sense of what this team is capable of doing this year.

Torvik projects South Carolina to be 16-14, 7-11 in the SEC.  The closer comparison they to them in the Big Ten this season is Nebraska.  I'd be fine with a 16 point home win over Nebraska.

The stripes definitely took any wind out of our sails for this one. Good lord, even from my perch at the top of Mt. Krumpit, I could see some BS calls. A very loud ref, you suck chant broke out, which was enjoyable.
I did notice at one timeout Ballo and Coach Ya were getting into some of the guys. Nice to see Rice and Carlyle add to the offense and a shame that Goode was no Goode from 3 tonight. I thought we had broken the voodoo but apparently the voodoo is strong with this one!

Goode is a bust... supposedly a sharp-shooter from 3, but only hitting a measly 2 of 7 (28.5%).

My assessment of the game:

1) 3 point shooting is better but volume is still and issue.

2) The reason why volume is still an issue is because our offense still has very little flow, everything going through the post

3) Defense is good but not great

4) After watching Purdue last night getting key defensive rebounds, other than Ballo, we have a box out problem

5) Too much standing around on offense, see point number 2

6) Mike Woodson still sucks as a coach, IMO

I think it’s our offense, not Goode!

Nah — we’re getting him nice looks. In fact, Goode has had some truly  delicious open looks and has missed and missed.

But he is as proven a commodity as it gets as a wing shooter. The team is at a solid 35.3% from three and Goode will very likely end up well above the team average.

Not a resume or season defining win by any means but don’t let the sect of blowhards on here tell you this team is the same as last year. Significantly improved and will only get better.

I wouldn't say they're the same either. The pieces are there, you can see it, there is talent. But the brain-dead decisions late made it much closer than it should be and they still play really dumb for long stretches. Potential won't bail them out of that. Also, amazing how poorly this team throws lobs. By my count they had 78 turnovers on horrible lobs. It's a win versus a decent, not good team. Hopefully, they learn and grow from it.

A lot of the dumb still comes from a bunch of guys playing together for the first time all while trying find their role. Thats why these early games exist.
