But... Why?

I appreciate everything he did last season, but he doesn't seem to fit with the type of team they are building.

I wasn’t really advocating for or against just laying out the case that he should have likely taken a redshirt that season since he wasn’t part of the plan as anything but a practice player at that point. It likely cost him a lot of money given the season he had this year proving he could be a valuable connector and defender. His defensive box plus minus this season would have been the best in the country in 2023-2024.

I don't think guys like Miles, Dorn, Enright, Drake, etc went from making virtually $0 last year to making close to $600k overnight.
I also don't buy that Gabe Cupps is making $600k next year. I would guess that end of rotation/bench guys at P5 schools are making between $150-300k. Most of this NIL valuation talk is perpetuated by agents to try and prop up their other clients.

Hatton made 100K last year to basically be a practice player.

Ok? He was the 10th-11th man last year. What do you think IU’s 10th-11th man is going to make this year? Probably very similar.

I believe Tucker DeVries and Wilkerson are the two players pushing $2million, as they are probably the only two with all-conference potential. Wilkerson is the only transfer I recall where IU was in somewhat of a bidding war with other brand name programs. I wouldn’t be surprised if those are the only 2 making seven+ figures.

I think he knows his stuff. Definitely not as connected as he used to be but he did go on a tangent on how him and andershock have been told to be quiet this off season for a multitude of reasons(if they report stuff it brings visibility to prospects and other teams could jump in unexpectedly, ect). (This could be total bs but it was said)

So the site that had a epically horrible off season coaching search where they never had any info, are now telling you that on this issue they are being asked to be quiet as they don't report any real info, and we are wondering if that MIGHT be BS?

That’s kinda my point. We went cheap. “Overpaid” for unheralded guys versus just spending big, imo. No way we spent 10 million on this roster.

Could be close. 2 mil each for DeVries and Wilkerson, that’s 4 mil. Than $500,000 each for 10 guys and that’s $5 mil. Add together for $9 mil. Seems to me more than likely we are at $10 mil or well over it for a 13 man roster, once its complete.

I still believe you are a star gazer and want buzz. I want wins. Both would be great but that wasn’t ever going to happen unless we spent like $20 mil and just poached from every top team.

Did Louisville go cheap last year? They spent and arguably a similar if not a worse on paper roster. DD spent what he had to and got (mostly) the kids he wanted.

Probably a Good comparison. Yeah, they moneyballed it very well last year. Could be the IU way this year, at its best. So long as DeVries is happy and got who he wanted. No excuses.

Louisville spent big this off-season.
