I understand that the defense was completely focused on TJD during that season, but still. MM isn't carmelo anthony or anything, but certainly a better coach than Woody should be able to coax a decent season out of him. He's tall, got a good build, and can shoot. He can be a good stretch 4 if he's really pushed to do the little things (which I don't think he was under Woody). Yes, he's limited athletically, but so are a lot guys. That's why it's insane that Woody played him at the 3 for so long. MM wasn't on the the team when TJD was here lillurk, Crimson and Cream and skhoosier2 3 Quote

Awful He is probably the worst B1G FOY. Quote

I was surprised by his lack of athleticism. With a better attitude, he could be much better. Maybe this coach can pull that out of him. Based on past history of guys leaving a Woodson led program, I’d say he does well. Keep in mind, for those guys most of us typically don’t see the missed defensive assignments on defense and usually just the higher scoring games and highlights. As long as he’s not in the B1G beating IU, I’m good with that. Home Jersey 1 Quote

Mgbako is more talented than many that left and generally succeeded, but in my opinion he has a mental disconnect, both on and off the court that is a bigger obstacle for success than anything that Gunn, Bates, or Banks had to overcome. moyemayhem, skhoosier2, HoosierX and 5 others 8 Quote

Every kid is different! And we are working with extremely limited information about all of them, really. At the end of the day, good for those guys when things work out at their next place, but I’m not much interested in following their journey after they’ve left IU in most transfer cases. thebigweave, moyemayhem, Soulsnipes and 1 other 4 Quote

He’s also not the same level of athlete as those 3 particularly players IMHO. He could do well elsewhere and Woodson’s system did him no favors, but agree that it wasn’t only the physical side of things with him. I thought maybe he would go down a level or at least to the Big East or ACC perhaps. We shall see how he fares in an even more athletic and talented league. Stuhoo and CSP 2 Quote
Popular Post Stuhoo Posted April 18 Popular Post Posted April 18 Props to HSN poster Indykev who snapped a photo of Bryson Tucker walking into Cook Hall this morning. While I know that Woodson era players still have their Cook Hall swipe card (insta photos of Mgbako there last week), I wonder if there's still a chance that Bryson Tucker and IU are considering each other. He would certainly fit the bill for the athletic 3 that we could use, and I'm a fan of his game and his personal makeup. HoosierFan1994, Ryno6284, thebigweave and 5 others 8 Quote
IU Prof Posted April 18 Posted April 18 It's probably just baseless speculation, but about two and a half minutes into this, they suggest IU is looking to play TDV at the 3, Bailey and the 4, and bring in a true 5. Just FYI... https://youtu.be/VuhJDegJeVI?si=zqJgdTeLe65dnV_X Ctf9 1 Quote

WayneFleekHoosier Posted April 18 Posted April 18 MM I think had major disconnect issues at Indiana at times and particularly in year 2 with Woodson. Woodson tried playing the Reneau, Mgbako, Ballo frontcourt so long and it put Mgbako in the worst possible spot with him having to play the 3. He might have wanted to play the 3 but it wasn’t the right move. If his next coach can idnentify his strengths and weaknesses he can be a big asset. His free throw stroke was beautiful. And his 3 point shot really too. He lost his concentration in year 2 and started missing free throws and forcing 3s. Woodson was drawing up guard plays for him to run off double staggers and MM rarely hit those shots. He was better with the catch and shoot from set positions. His driving was ok but clogged lane made things tough. I could see him going bananas and having a tremendous year with the right system and his mental settled. skhoosier2, Ryno6284, hoosierfan6157 and 2 others 5 Quote

Saw various players with visits scheduled this weekend at other schools being mentioned on X. Coach needs a little bit of rest and to get lunch with Don Fisher lol. In all seriousness that dude has been working non stop since he was hired. Still pieces left (roster spots/coaches) but I can't imagine he's seen his family that much. Most likely true. It's just crazy busy these coaches are. I assume summer time is really these only chance. Even then, they have to recruit and help with summer workouts. Quote

They get paid well for their services and on an average year they should only be adding 4-5 players. I don’t feel too sorry for them. He showed some flashes in limited playing time. My biggest problem with Tucker was his fading away 17 ft jump shots time and time again. Rarely did he square up and go straight up. I'd gladly welcome him back to this squad. schoosier and mark1981 2 Quote
