WayneFleekHoosier Posted April 5, 2025 Posted April 5, 2025 With West Virginia being 15th in defensive efficiency last year despite lacking any real kind of shot blocker (Hansberry played the most minutes at center and he blocked 12 shots all year), I'm confident that DeVries will be able to coach the players he has into playing solid defense. I understand he has had good defenses. But personnel matters. As it stands now we are a bad defensive personnel team. The good thing is we won’t have Woody confusing the **** out of them and they can play defense. We have a negative defender at every position so far. Gonna be a real humdinger. lillurk Posted April 5, 2025 Posted April 5, 2025 Thinking aloud: we’re going to see some late game offense/defense subbing. Goode and Pack(?) on for offense/FT%, Enright and [rim protecting 5 like Bidunga] on for defense thebigweave 1 Quote

Just worried about our team defense as DeVries and Goode struggle on D. And I think even though he’s pesky, Enright is gonna get exposed on D as well. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners mobile app I am just saying I am less worried about the defense than you are (and think your opinion of Enright's defense is waaayyyyy off). West Virginia's defensive personnel wasn't good. They had Harris and their backup center as the only plus defenders. taco corp, Demo and lillurk 3 Quote

WayneFleekHoosier Posted April 5, 2025 Posted April 5, 2025 Enright is a plus defender. We’ll see about that. Size and skill are lot tougher than he’s seen on a consistent basis. Watching his film, he’s gonna get bullied by the tough guards and walked by the more athletic guards. My opinion. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners mobile app Quote

I think you would agree that if Bailey signs and Good is given another year of eligibility that DeVries is putting together a team that can really shoot the ball and can always look for individual defensive skill sets in other players he brings in. thebigweave, Juwan Moye, JaybobHoosier and 4 others 7 Quote

It can be taught, especially for guards/wings. A rim protector would be nice though. lillurk, Juwan Moye, MemphisHoosier and 6 others 9 Quote

Obviously Braden Smith is an elite college point guard but he turned it over 12 times in two games getting guarded by mostly Rice and Galloway. Anyway, elite players do tend to outplay their competition.....otherwise they wouldn't be elite. Quote

I’ve always said shooting translates and it will. Off ball movement that lacked so horribly from Woodson’s teams will be back with a vengeance. Can also play 5 out with Bailey which is unique.
