Transfer Portal w IU Interest

Recommended Posts

High level shooter? Imagine us bringing in someone with leal stats in the transfer portal. Let alone running plays for him lol. This place would loose it. Leal looked scared to death to shoot the ball half the time. Don’t even get me started with how he looked handling the ball against pressure basically backing ppl down from 80 ft. I love that Woodson played him last year but it had a lot more to do with being sick of watching the others on the team play. Hell I’d would have rather watch Dallas James lay then half the guys last year. I really hope we start to get more talented players than leal and those guys because practice/team hype emergency bench guys.

Leal would be a f’in great addition to this team.  Are you Debbie downers getting a grasp ?  Obviously no no don’t!  FFS!  Leal will be the glue of all f’n glue that makes this team bind!  Wake the F up boys !  Let’s go Hoosiers and let’s go Anthony Leal!  ✌️

He really glued the previous teams together.  I loved watching them in the Illinois game and appreciated the extra time I had not watching them in the ncaa tourney.

I think some of us have just been so conditioned to having not one but two bigs in the Woodson system we forget that you don’t have to have a 7 footer plodding down the court. Think Houston, the Villanova championship teams, etc…have a 6’9” guy who is athletic and make your team high energy. It’s a shift in philosophy from what we are used to, but the bigs lineup hasn’t worked. I’m all game for a new perspective

I’d like to see us add a versatile 6’9 or so shotblocking forward. If we’re really trying to bring Leal back (I remain very doubtful), I would consider that a strange and unnecessary move. We don’t need a traditional big and that would not fit with the roster and system DeVries is putting together, but we could certainly use another forward to add to rebounding, shot blocking, depth

How do you convince to them to come here with little mins, though?

The 11 guys we have now... 10 look like guys that will command mins.

It’s for depth not necessarily big minutes (no pun intended), and fwiw people didn’t think Dorn would commit for the same reasons

If Leal does get a waiver and wants to come back, I'm fine with that. Let him come back as a walk-on. With no bag of $$'s.

As a general point of information, but from what I've read, walk-ons are now ancient history.  You can have 15 scholarship players but any number of total players over 13 results in a financial penalty in terms of revenue sharing.

I watched an NBA playoff game Friday night. One team’s starting lineup went: 6’6”, 6’7”, 6’4”, 6’2”, 6’2”.

And that lineup had only two shooters that were crushingly incredible outside shooters. All five were guys that had to be guarded at the three point line though.

If you ask me if our players 11-13 is Goode, Leal and Sisley that makes for a deep team. I just don't understand the bitterness towards Leal and Goode in coming back to the team.

Why do you feel the need to make sh up? Who exactly is “bitter” about Leal?? Haven’t seen a single “bitter” post about him. Not seeing him as a fit for this team isn’t bitterness, good grief

If we grabbed the defensive equivalence of Hatton I'd be tickled to death.

The bitterness is from the comments about senior day two years ago. Talking about how he is part of the toxic environment under Woodson.

Weren’t a lot of us clowning Chad Baker Mazara and all these 6th year seniors? But we’re thrilled with Anthony Leal coming back for a 6th year? Lol… If he wants to pay his way for another year of school to be a practice player then he’s a real IU guy through and through, I suppose. Seems like a good time to move on after 5 years though, even if he is sometimes pretty good at defense.

I detect more than a hint of bitterness in the ten posts by six different people I quoted above yours.

;)

It’s all good—different opinions; but some animosity towards Leal that extends beyond his bball skills? Yes.

Meh, several of those are reaches Stu.  “”How is he gonna earn that much money fresh out of college?” “Tied to a toxic regime.” “He really glued the previous teams together.” Those aren’t bitter as to Leal - the comment was bitterness to Leal and Goode not generally. And Goode?? What posts are bitter about Goode??

Sure! But those posts certainly are not about how he could help as a basketball player; very much (to varying degrees) about how he would effect team culture.

Right. And half (or more) the pitch of Leal’s value is about what he brings off the court as a sixth year CBB player. People feel differently about that… and his fit on the roster in basketball terms… so the less than enthusiastic reception to the idea is unsurprising to me, especially after the past four years.
