I'm not sure why anyone held out hope Wilkerson would commit on his first visit of what is basically a short tour of having dollars thrown at him. 

Indiana's return to success isn't going to be fast like everyone wants it to be. It just isn't. Gradual improvement is the reality.

I just don't see why he would go UK because they already have a lot of guards and wings and wouldn't get as much playing time there.

This is why I never got excited when Trilly predicted Wilkerson to IU.

We'll fill a roster, plenty of guys still out there. But missing on Conway and this kid who we clearly wanted badly is not good.

We need to get players and soon. For all the talk about “trust in coach,” he’s completely new and needs to earn trust. Right now he’s just a guy with a nearly empty roster.

My biggest concern with the DeVries hire has been wondering if he has the recruiting chops to get kids that are coveted by bluebloods and other high-majors. Still early, but the early returns haven't looked good.

That’s true. “Just fine” is pretty ambiguous. I’ve said a ton of times I don’t think this cycle will get the best version of the roster. Louisville’s roster last year had no top 75 transfers. We may not get any highly rated guards this cycle. Hopefully we get at least a couple. Wilkerson would’ve been great. It is still relatively early. Do want to see that we’re willing to pay guys what it takes to get the deal done soon-ish.

I didn't realize we lost our on both players. I doubt most players commit on their first visit if they have others set up

I agree in theory but I’d guess (guessing) half the 2 year guys leave after a year.  
Id rather get a guy that hits 44.5% of his threes like Wilkerson.

Who knows….Going to UK might be driven by his agent as I wouldn’t be surprised if multiple visits drive up his price by 500k+. Hell, I’d drive to Lexington for 500k.

He’s taking the visit. My assumption is the same. There are still plenty in the portal but I think money and playing time just aren’t enough for these top prospects. DD has to prove he can win and put IUBB on an upward trajectory before we can compete with these top programs for sought after portal prospects.
