Throwing good money after bad. When I suggested beefing up the NIL to try and attract a proven coach I think it was you that told me we already sit on $6mil so little need to go higher. Now we’re spiking the pot to try and save Woody?

This program is so a** backwards it’s crazy.

Edit to add: This isn’t a dig at Chris. It’s just crazy to me to deploy those resources to save a failing coach instead of try and pull off a coup to land a good one.

These people just aren't very bright.  It's really that simple.  And didn't the Simon's and Carl Cook all inherit their money?  Usually a bad sign.  I doubt any one of them has ever really done anything on their own.  It's like Fredo is now pissing away all of Vito's money.  Crazy.

Herb and Mel Simon owned a lot of Malls. I say people who are millionaires and Billionaires aren't stupid and don't just throw their money away. I would say they are probably tired of having to pony up buyout money.

Cook’s father died 13 years ago.

Hardly doubt that someone who is not “very bright “ could continue the company for that length of time.

The only bullet point I can reference that he’s not intelligent is that he’s a Purdue grad

First of all I want to apologize to everyone about last night. I was as disappointed as anyone last night about Woodson being brought back and I am sorry to the people I offended. Saying that I also was disappointed in some of our fans saying they hope next year is a disaster and I can't understand that thinking. I would think you would hope Woodson sees the light and make the right changes and has a great year. I think at least the players who decide to represent IU and the fan base would get our support.

The last few weeks it didn't feel right hoping for losses because that would help getting a coaching change. Games like OSU and Maryland where we made great comebacks and made big plays and not being excited just felt wrong.

I can’t root for Mike Woodson. I hate everything he represents. Arrogance. Laziness. Nepotism. Give me a coach he busts his *** 365 days a year. Not a coach  who IU has to hire helpers for to the parts of the job he thinks he’s too good to do. I’ll start caring again once he’s no longer the coach.

So who is the coach?  The coach or the GM/Chief of Staff?

So actually if you go back to some of my previous posts, it's not that bad of an idea.  But my thinking is more along the lines of a player personnel department running thru the AD.  Guys who's sole job is to review prospects -- both high school and portal.  Help the coaching staff with target lists, etc.  So Coach can say get me  a "shot blocking center" and they can give him a list of names, reports, and film on guys to check out.  Coach still picks his players.

Does his salary come out of the coaches pay since he is not competent enough or energetic enough to do that essential function of his job?

Let me introduce to you fatboy JB Pritzker.  But I digress.  :)

No.  With the portal and transfer rules today, it's way too big of a job for a coaching staff.  We are talking 1000s of players.  And they have to be ready at a moment's notice as kids hit the portal to make a go/no-go decision.  It's a separate function from the coaching staff, in my world.  All pro organizations have them -- think of scouting departments and those dudes sitting at the table in Moneyball.

Why don’t they just use their smart phone?

And he will have made the tournament at least 2 more times than Archie. O don’t think Woodson is the worst coach IU has had but I think the names being tossed about are all upgrades (Pearl specifically).

it has been brutal for almost 2 decades. Haven’t been able to be consistently good. Just blood here and there. After this massaging of the old guard is done IU needs to go hire an elite coach bc that’s what it takes for consistent success.

I agree with all that including he’s better than Archie. I was just more thinking about projections for next year. I don’t love our defensive prospects. I could be wrong though.

Here comes the team now...your 2025 1978 Indiana Hoosiers!

So they are going to play with 4 players? No. Or does Woody become player/coach?

Tommy Heinsohn did the player coach gig for the Boston Celtics

So tell me why Woodson needs a Chief of Staff again?

If you paid attention to the NBA, or any pro league, you’d see that business smarts and basketball IQ aren’t the same. Billionaire owners come into the NBA and routinely make basic mistakes any common fan could avoid. The problem with people that successful is you can’t tell them much and they have huge egos.

All you have to do is look at the product on the floor to see that our big boosters aren’t as smart as KU’s, UK’s, etc… when it comes to basketball.

I never listen to the Hysterics but once upon a time someone on here recommended a pod they did with, I believe, Kenya Hunter. This was not long ago, a quick search reveals that came out 5/10/2022 if it’s the one I’m thinking it was.

He clearly indicated that their strategy was to primarily recruit and develop HS recruits, and supplement with transfers. In my opinion that’s the correct plan at IU.

Woody’s clearly shifted philosophies, based on what we see and what insiders have said. Sadly, I think it’s clearly going to fail. Not impossible to imagine this year’s holdovers and some guard additions, plus McNeeley, could’ve been an interesting squad.

My hunch is the chances that’s true are significantly lower without McNeeley. Probably need 4 and maybe 5 guys from the portal to hit, just a really tall task even in good times. And that’s assuming a decent nucleus stays: feels like the chances of that might also be moving out of reach.
