Class of '66 Old Fart

IUBB @ Maryland - Sunday, 03.03.24 @ 2:00 on CBS-TV

This team was always too talented to be where we are. Clicks a little better for them when they have zero pressure and expectations. Gallo still an awful shooter. Yips times a million for him.

I feel we are in purgatory.

As bad as our season has been, Maryland returned Young, Scott and Reese and we swept them.

Happy we won today.  Also, very happy that Maryland isn't very well coached.  How do you not foul Galloway every time in the last 90 seconds when you are trying to come back?  I kept expecting they would, instead they tried playing straight defense and then fouled us anyways.

We beat them just as Geronimo was heating up. So happy we shut that down!

That would of been the worst if he got hot and beat us.

No cigar though.

They started Geronimo all year and he wasn't going to play at IU.  He would have been with Banks and Sparks on our bench.

There were only 25 fouls called which I think benefitted us.  I thought the refs were consistent and let both teams play.  The lack of fouls allowed us to play Ware almost the whole game which certainly is vital for our defense.  We shot free throws well today, but who knows what may have happened if we shot 8-10 more. We may have ended up closer to our season average.

I think that 12-14 minute run in the 2nd half is what Woodson envisioned before the season starting, MM hitting 3s, X playing under control, Ware rebounding if not scoring etc plus hitting foul shots. It was an amazing run and fun to watch them take the lead ... although ... I thought they pulled the plug too soon in the last 3 minutes and it was going to cost them the game. I am glad IU won, I hate losing any game, or anything.

Me too but this season is still Mike Woodson’s fault for many reasons

Just now getting a chance to watch. Once again the coaches (HC and assistants) have been much more active the last few games.  Frequently up and a step on the court encouraging/coaching. Would have been easy to pack this one in when they got down 18 but coming back on the road suggests that maybe the coach has not lost the team as was suggested.

As Demo said in the other thread it would be great to see this year end on a positive note and still land a sure fire new coach.

I agree JG would have been on the bench for IU. He wouldn’t have played a ton but would have played more minutes than Banks and Sparks.

They have started JG almost all year. Is that a positive for MD? In the 12 games prior to the IU game, as a starter for MD,  he scored 4 or less points in 8/12 of the preceding games ( zero points in three of them and two points in four of them) and for the year is shooting 43%, 16% from the three, 4 boards a game with twice as many turnovers as assists. He seems like a good guy/teammate but would not have added much of anything to IU if he had stuck around.

Well as of now the only real path Indiana has is playing in the 8/9 game or the 7/10 game. Win the last two, playing in the 7/10 and that puts them in a potential matchup with Illinois. Stay in the 8/9... Purdue. There is a chance at playing as the 6th seed. If Indiana beats Minnesota and Michigan State and Iowa loses. That puts all 4 at 10-10 and Indiana would have beat all of them.

You couldn’t have had better news for me to start out the morning, and I haven’t had my caffeine yet!

Seems like good news. I didn't add the bad news lol. Could finish 11th or 12th depending on what Rutgers and Ohio State does. We lose both, Rutgers wins 1 more and Ohio State wins one more then we are 12th. Couple of other scenarios where we finish behind Rutgers or Ohio State. Gotta go out and beat Minny and MSU. Then Woody can be told to leave on a better-ish note lol.

We all hope that’s the case but if we win those last 2 games, finish 10-10 in the B10, good luck getting him to leave.  He won’t go quietly into the night, he’ll be kicking and screaming like a little kid being forced to go to bed.
