They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

The athletic department's stance right now is the plan is for Mike Woodson to be back for his 4th year. 

I suppose that's what they have to say during the year cause that possibility is frightening.

There are only two reasons not to push coach Woodson into retirement- money and your targeted coach isn't available.  The money issue should be the easiest to resolve.  Woodson has been bad enough that I would think one or two of the big boosters would be willing to help make it happen.  If your targeted coach has a reasonable buyout, you must move fast before someone else does.  To hold onto a mediocre college coach 1 more year out of "fairness" and then miss out on really good coach would be a sign you have an inept Athletic Director.

I'm not sure I have faith in Dolson.  I'm starting to think that emails need to be going to President Whitten complaining about the mismanagement of the basketball program by Scott Dolson.

From the outside looking in, definitely seems like the ball is in Dolson's court to line up a clearly better option or a change won't be made. Seems as though his job is to make it impossible for Quinn to reasonably say "no" to the alternative option. Having to line up the $$ from boosters, as someone else said, should be the easy part. Passing the BOT's "rigorous" pre-clearance process seems like the harder part. 

A lot of thought is, rightfully IMO, being put into how we can handle Mike Woodson's legacy in a mindful/sensitive/appreciative way. Something I think most people are discounting at the moment is Dolson's drive to build his own legacy... sure, he needs to get better at the financial side of things. But IMO, he has shown he has his finger on the pulse of the fanbase and is willing to act... if you want a change to happen this offseason, whether you believe in his ability as an AD or not, you should be rooting for Scott right now. I know CCC has not coached a game yet but that type of hire still inspires confidence/provides reason for hope, to me.

Let's get it done SD!

I agree, when the 81 team turned it on after a slow start once Turner got his head out of his a**, they were a juggernaut. Watching the 81 team is one of my favorite childhood memories.

If the decision to give Woodson a 4th season has already been made, then I think it's fair to judge Dolson now.  If it is just Admin speak, then yes it would make sense to see what happens at the end of the season.

Rambling from an Old Fart.  Maybe, just maybe, a change will happen but a new coach wouldn't be announced until his season officially ended later this month.  In the interim, if you announce today Woody is out, every bit of your '25 recruiting is immediately dead in the water.  Walsh, Ya and Hunter have no standing with recruits because they don't know what their future is.  Maybe (hopefully) Woody was told to get his a$$ on the road so at least there was some semblance of IU recruiting activity purely to bridge a gap.

So leading a recruit to say another program is giving them something against the rules is legal now?

Do you work in the athletic department?  Are you privy to the meeting with the President and Board?  We can hope all we want that coach Woodson could be replaced at the end of the season, but there are those that believe that Woodson is getting at least a 4th year.  That could be why coach Woodson made the comment that he's not going anywhere.  Maybe he's already been told he's back regardless.  For you to state the decision hasn't been made is an opinion which I hope is true.  But, to act as if the decision may not have already been made is well... silly.

My post is reasonable.  The end of the season is not here yet.  We will see what happens then.  

Your post is unreasonable.  you are acting as if they decision to bring him back has already been made.  There are too many moving parts right now for that to be true.
