They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

Recommended Posts

I’d say so. Threw some units on ML as well once Osterman put out the tweet. Figured if it came out before the game the staff was feeling confident

At 10 this morning I looked at the odds and said +5, I’ll take that candy. Then at 10:12, for some reason, by brain said double down and put some on the money line

Maybe they'll pay May $2M to come as coach in waiting for next season and then Woodson is out after 1 more season.

Nah, who am I kidding? IU wouldn't even do something like that. They'll let Woodson run this into the ground.

If next season is even remotely decent they'll find an excuse to bring him back for year 5.

I wouldn’t agree that he’s completely unqualified, but it’s not hard to see that his NBA view of basketball doesn’t work in college, and that’s style of play, roster management, in game decisions and prep work. It’s just a bad fit. And he and a bunch of others were disappointed by the way he was treated by someone who was completely tone deaf and in love with another coach. The blow back was bad and it probably helped Woody be at the front of the line after Miller was booted. I knew Dolson and Buckner weren’t banging heads and trying to out-scheme each other. That was beyond crazy and really uninformed.. But I’ve heard Dolson has been taken aback by the negative views of Woody, and he’s also shocked by the number of fans dressed as empty seats for much of the season, especially since the tickets were already sold.

Woodson's style of play is decades behind where the NBA is. He's fixated on playing inside out but the NBA is guard oriented with multiple shooters stretching the floor.

Dolson's taken aback by negative views of an awful coach? Woodson wasn't getting another head coaching job despite how the NBA recycles coaches, his last was in 2014 and there's a reason. We're seeing the problems that got him fired from the Knicks.

Woodson was never a good choice, full stop. Not when Miller was hired and even less so after Miller was fired. No serious program would've even given him the slightest consideration. He was a great player 40 years ago, but that doesn't mean he was ever a good choice for coach.

He wasn’t seriously considered because he wasn’t a serious candidate. It was incredibly arrogant of him to think he should’ve been one. And then Woody got his feelings hurt and now we’re stuck with him.

Stuck with him because his friend and people with money want to protect him.

Woody being slighted by Glass meant the former players (QB, IT, RW, etc.) were going to make sure he got it the next time around.

Now, archie got four years, so according to those same guys, woody gets four years.

"We have to keep Woodson because we didn't fire Miller when we should have".

Competent coaches don't need a chief of staff.  How f---ing stupid is it to have to hire a bunch of people to babysit your $4 million a year coach?

Indiana University lights all the money sent its way on fire.  Bunch of dumbasses making dumbass decisions that they are never held accountable for.

Eh, a GM type role is starting to be used in college football. I have no problem either that aspect. The problem is it'll just be one of Woodson's friends like Payne and not someone that should actually be making those decisions.

Does anyone actually think that when the supposed mass exodus happens at the end of the season when X, Walker and Ward and most likely Mgtako and then possibly Malik, Trey, CJ and Banks all leave, would this decision be reconsidered?

And IU admit they screwed up? If they were willing to admit their mistake Woodson wouldn't have been brought back.

With the way Mgbako has been playing and if he works out with the right people. I think he might leave and get drafted.

I still think if he goes, at best he would be a very late second flyer pick and I still think he likely goes undrafted.  His hot streak over the last six games has been good (15 of 35 from three) but certainly not anything that changes the narrative right now IMO.  At the end of the day he's a player best known for shooting that is only shooting 34% from three and doesn't have other skills that translate to the NBA yet. But that doesn't mean he'll stay in college another year......just see him as G league fodder right now.  He has more of an 'old man's game' right now which could use some more fine tuning.
