As if they didn't learn from the Allen debacle. I bet Dolson gets the best Christmas baskets from different agencies every year.

Hopefully there are pink slips in them this time!

I think they can change the narrative.  Mike comes in a rights the ship.  Get's two tournament births, several NBA draft picks.  Sets us up for the future and a smooth transition to the next coach.  Now it's time for Mike to retire as an ambassador of IU basketball.  And let me introduce our new coach ______________.

But, If he stays another year, can't fill out the roster with portal guys, and this thing blows up next year, it will be difficult to change that one.

I get it, but who is our guy to take Woody’s place?  When the time comes to move on, we better make sure plan A is in place.

Since 2021

- Fired Archie Miller and paid him $10.3 million
- Fired Tom Allen and paid him $15.5 million; negotiated down from $20.8 million
- On the hook for Mike Woodson and his $12.6 million

Starting to understand why IU hired somebody with a fundraising background. Imagine how many girl scout cookies Dolson could sell?

I’m starting to cheer for L’s. L’s means change can happen sooner than later.

Somehow, I am not surprised with that opinion from certain posters.

I cannot fathom any fan thinking like that.

But, hey...I support your being able to do it.

Problem is lost in the sweet 16.  And the next year missed the tourney completely.  What could have been.

One thing I'll say for Crean is he did seem to get a bad draw in each of the 3 S16 years.  I thought in Zellers first season we'd make the FF if we weren't in Kentucky's bracket.  Syracuse was a terrible matchup for Crean.  In Yogi's final year I thought we had a great chance at a FF again assuming we didn't play UNC or Villanova on the way.

The only time I would root for losses is for my pro teams to get a real high draft pick

And critically Hulls was playing injured, as in badly, in that game against Cuse. He couldn't shoot his 3's, we couldn't pull / break the zone by mixing outside shots and hitting Cody in the middle. That's the kind of thing that just gets overlooked, but it was key to our inability to break that zone (yes, Crean struggled against it, but the players could have broken it with a healthy Hulls).

IMO Crean was and remains undervalued. Yes, he was bizarre on the sideline, a punchline waiting to happen, and his in-game acumen was often questionable -- and he clearly couldn't succeed elsewhere w/o the level of players he brought to IU -- but

- he won us B1G championships and in strong B1G years

- he brought us multiple players that we all loved and who will go down in IU history as some of the best we've had, Yogi, Vic, Cody, Hulls, Wat, OG, Bryant etc. What we wouldn't give to have a Yogi-Hulls-Wat-Vic team now.

- he brought us multiple SW16's. Didn't get beyond that, at least in part due to circumstances that just happen, but we beat UK on one of those runs.

- Our offense, sometimes wacky with the dribble-hand-off action, repeatedly scored at the top of DI, the D was often a mess, but man how I miss seeing our guys score the damn ball like that.

- Got us that unforgettable W over UK, the Wat shot, leaving chicken Cal refusing to play at IU thereafter....

So sure he couldn't maintain and lost the level of recruiting he needed to succeed at IU, lost the HS coaches, gave schollys to guys who had no business playing for IU or any school at that level, and the U wanted to  actually get "back" to competing at the top of DI, for NCAA championships, and Crean had fallen off, most agree it was time to move on.

But man, talk about screwing the pooch -- we then replace him Miller???? That was a horrible, horrible and stupid move.

I would love to see the level of guys and conference success with NCAA runs we had under Crean. We had teams who were championship level, imo, finding that guy who can bring those kind of players and run deep regularly, difficult.

I can agree with a lot, if not all of that.  I appreciate that the guy stepped into the abyss and dug us out of the hole.  Brought us some good teams and great wins.  I just wish he wasn't so freaking weird and was able to adapt and sustain it.  Imagine if you will in a moment of self reflection he said "man I got get a marginal improvement on D" and brought someone in to help with that.  Imagine if he said, I have to change some of my recruiting so as not to PO everybody.  He could have been a great one.  Instead, like most coaches, he's on the trash heap of history.
