They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

Sorry been away for a few days, my wife had surgery. She did let me go to the game on Saturday, but then I got in trouble for drinking way too much after watching the game and staying out too late.

But coming into work this morning I did see soft touch moving trucks at Assembly Hall. So I think they're cleaning everything out so it will be empty by the team gets back from Columbus.

People are not happy, fans, boosters, Players, coaches, administrators, trustees. Not sure if anything will happen but I will say Dolson's inbox has probably reached capacity.  He is personally answering emails so he knows people are not happy. If we only win a game or two the rest of the season things will be interesting.

So if Woodson were to get fired:

A) we have to “have our guy this time lined up. Not a fallback guy.. “the guy”

B.) if we don’t have “our guy” then Woodson’s here if we win 2+ games. To be a sheep. (With less NIL funds because donors won’t want to invest for meh team again.)

is this what I’m reading into…

What I'm saying and maybe I'm not doing a good job of it. A lot of people are not happy and voicing their frustrations to the AD, the President, and the Trustees. I'm not sure if that is enough to push Woodson out this year. If it is I'm not hearing that right now but wouldn't expect to.

I'm guessing Dolson has a list of people he is interested in, I'm also guessing he is speaking to agents in the background to gauge the interest of potential candidates. I think everyone involved will let the season play out, then sit down at the end of the season to decide which way to go.

I wondered if there’d be a scenario where if Dolson does end up wanting to be done with Woodson after this year, instead of actually publicly firing him, doing him a solid of making it look like a mutual thing that was planned, but the more I thought about that, it probably wouldn’t make sense since he was given the raise and extension.

if Dolson does indeed have a list of people he is interested in who would want the job after this season then he’d want to make sure it happened now before they went elsewhere, right? I agree that everyone involved will let the season play out and decide which way to go at the end, but dang, if someone is interested after this season and we can get the ball rolling instead of wondering if next season will be any better with Woodson then let’s get it done.

So in other words, we will win 3 more games, and Woody gets another year because we can't hurt anyone's feelings.  May to UL and Schwerz to OSU.  Next season is a disaster, Woody gets fired, and we kick off the Michael Lewis era.  Did I miss anything?

that would be a soul-crushing scenario.....

I think this is a possibility but it would still take some money. His buyout is 12 million, so maybe offer 6 to retire.

What makes it more dicey is that there would seem to be several candidates that will have potentially other good jobs opening up after this year: Louisville, tOSU(?), Michigan?

I got a response from my email and he sounded very aggitated. Most times his responses are very nice and cordial. Yesterday it sounded like Scott please shut up and leave me alone

It is astounding that one former player from 50 years ago is bigger and more important than an entire university and the millions of other alums and fans.
This hire is quinns legacy now not 1976. He owns the Woodson hire.

Disagree - we have Hoosiers for Good which doesn’t behave or act anywhere close to this manner. Plenty of schools have collectives/NIL programs that do their part and keep their distance.

Right, and if you believe that I have a bridge to sell you.  Friends of the program baby.  Never forget the Golden Rule -- those who have the gold, make the rules.

I would even say that if it keeps going this way, this would be Woodson's legacy and not being an all-American in 80

I think they can change the narrative.  Mike comes in a rights the ship.  Get's two tournament births, several NBA draft picks.  Sets us up for the future and a smooth transition to the next coach.  Now it's time for Mike to retire as an ambassador of IU basketball.  And let me introduce our new coach ______________.

But, If he stays another year, can't fill out the roster with portal guys, and this thing blows up next year, it will be difficult to change that one.

Thanks for the response, dude. Will be praying for your wife’s speedy recovery!

He’s going to hold out for the entire 12 million and laugh all the way to the bank, he’s that stubborn

What is beyond laughable is how dumb the iu admins are. Giving a buyout that large to a guy nobody else was going to hire. I mean where us he going to go? Just a bunch of clowns running the show.

As if they didn't learn from the Allen debacle. I bet Dolson gets the best Christmas baskets from different agencies every year.

That’s where it starts, top/down and it’s been like that since Myles Brand’s personal agenda to fire RMK.
