Soon to RETIRE Coach Woodson Thread

You used the term white whale, not me. Those three along with Self and Hurley are widely regarded as the best coaches in the game. Two of the ones I mentioned turned Kentucky last year as did Hurley.

And I understood exactly what you meant, you're just wrong in your assessment. IU's lack of success isn't a deterrent. The EXPECTATIONS for a team with IU's lack of success is most definitely a deterrent, at least for these "white whale's" you speak of.

Maybe define what you believe the expectations to be at IU at this time.

FSU doesn't have a guy who graduated in 1976 and an 85 years old holding its program hostage

Ummmm... I realize you were referring to Ferguson, but

FSU's current head coach graduated college in 1971 and may actually be 85 years old.

My son goes to the University of Florida. Last Friday night he was glued to his laptop watching IU play hard but lose at Mackey. *Then he went out - he's not a total loser ya know*

If IU got Stevens, a different white whale, or for that matter got a great mid-major coach that turned the program around, he'd be jumping out of his skin with excitement.

Both sons are UF grads. Todd Golden has really turned that program around. It was funny to watch them spank UGA by 30 points after they inexplicably "stole" Mike White away a few years back.

Going to my first UF bball game on the 15th. I expect a sanitized crowd that is more concerned with Billy Napier, and a complete squishing of South Carolina.

2)If you don't understand, IU's only White Whale is Brad Stevens. The term refers to an objective/person that is obsessively pursued but unlikely to catch.

We had 600 pages devoted to Bruce Pearl last year who was also never going to coach at IU.

Just haven't changed from who I thought we'd go get the LAST time! Haha!

Last time?!!? You clearly missed the 600 page thread on Bruce Pearl.

IU can absolutely become a good program again and a decent one at that quick. But it's not going to happen in a 1-2 year span. You're not ever going to erase a 30 year down period overnight. And with each lost season and each passing coach the desperation grows bigger and bigger every single year.

You're right! They've been bad almost as long as the football program, and... Oh, wait.
