Fire Coach Woodson Thread

Recommended Posts

I listened to Assembly Call while going on a long walk today. As a public service, for those of you that don’t have the time to listen to the 1+ hour podcast, I will provide a detailed summary:

-embarrassing performance and number of blowouts

-no fight and poor effort

-out coached

-change is needed

-we suck

And we’ve been saying all of these things right here for the last 3+ years (Shreck, steuben, AH and NGW/Tyme excluded). The Assembly Call ain’t wrong.

I wonder if Dolson has already taken flights.  I mean it’s pretty obvious at this point that Woodson is gone.
In his mind he is 13-4 and just doing his job. Nothing is certain when you have friends in very high places

I have high friends in some places. That count for anything?

This list sucks. I hope we can do better than this.

Pearle and May are both better options in my opinion and both would listen to a pitch from IU

Cronin might be at the bottom of the list but Micah is still struggling at ND and Mack isn’t in the top 50 on the list

There’s a damn solid chance we go 2-8 over the next 10. Let it all crash down.

If that were the case I hope a statement within the athletic office is released stating Woodson will be retiring at season’s end or is canned after that 10th game. 15-10….. With the roster IU has after the season they had last year… It would be time to go. Personally if this team goes on a losing streak here I think they will pack it in.

Haven’t been here for a minute (thanks Stuhoo!)

Not gonna be the guy accused of not showing up.

Read most of this thread and agree with whoever said that there’s a lot of regurgitation of the same ol’ same ol’.

Here’s my opinion. Blast away if you feel the need.

Woodson’s overall philosophy on offense is wrong and has been shown to be so over the last few games. However he is a decent X’s and O’s coach. He has also shown that he can develop big guys.

He has failed to develop a sense of toughness with his teams, and for that reason we will continue to wilt and get run over by quality teams. His seemingly unwillingness to discipline guys has created an environment where the inmates are running the asylum. This may in part be due to the dynamics college sports are in now. Where the players have been given so much leverage with NIL money and the revolving door that is the portal. I think Woodson doesn’t realize, or doesn’t care that regardless of how much money these guys are making, they are still a bunch of young guys who are going to do immature things, are going to be incredibly inconsistent, and who need a firm, guiding hand… and repercussions when they screw up.

If Woodson can’t do this, or doesn’t believe it’s his job to do so, then there needs to be that guy or guys on the team who will… who will get in guys’ faces when needed. Who won’t back down when we get punched in the face, but will punch back. All of our quality teams had that guy. For as much criticism he gets here, deservedly so, Quinn Buckner was that guy. Jim Thomas was that guy. Kitchell, Hillman, Mike Lewis, Chris Reynolds, Fife… all were that guy. Sheehey was probably the last guy who was that guy.

Sorry for the length of this. Had some time to think about stuff. Won’t demean Woodson but he and the product on the floor

are an embarrassment.
Please get past yourself CMW and do what’s in the best interest of the university you proclaim to love.

The problem is that Woodson needs to do this... but he's too busy counting his money and his chips at the hangout. Yeah, guys like Lewis, Reynolds and Fife are needed, but Woodson is cashing the big checks, and it ultimately falls on him. He's not done his job from day one in this regard...

The optics of canning a coach with a 15-10 record would be pretty bad, justifiedly or not. And besides quenching some parts of the fan base's thirst for blood, I'm not sure what it would accomplish. Better to let Woody ride out the year, and make a move a couple days after we play our last game.

My favorite part is watching tyme and SDB trying to justify a 20+ point loss every time it’s happens hahaha

It’s so funny.  They will start strawman arguments over irrelevant points and ignore that their mighty Mike Woodson got completely blown out again.  They are dreadful people.

This will be interesting. If Indiana is sputtering and Michigan is rolling coming into this game the chatter will be much louder not just about Woody being fired but about IU needing to specifically pursue May.

if that comes to fruition, I could see Woody playing hooky that day

Or getting the fastest two techs in the history of organized basketball.

Mike Woodson, the current Indiana University basketball coach, has recently stated that "there shouldn't be anything floating around about my job, I've done my job," essentially asserting that he believes he has fulfilled his responsibilities as coach despite recent struggles with the team; this is often summarized as "I did my job" when referring to his coaching performance.

Did anyone catch his post game presser after Iowa? He was asked about team chemistry with the new faces... and he actually said (straight-faced) "I'll never use that as an excuse". He went on to say that he does have new players, but essentially, so does every college team in America... Liar, liar, pants on fire...

15-10 is a soft 15-10 with our strength of schedule. They would be 6-10 in the Big 10…. 8-10 against teams from Bigger conferences. If you break it down it gets worse.

Michigan is going to lock up may after the season with a massive raise. Meanwhile Mike woodson gets 4 years and 6 million because archie got 4 years. Is it any wonder our program is in the toilet.

Dolson should be talking to May's agent already... get the deal done before Michigan can extend him.

Yea, I have come around to believing there is essentially no way this isn't his last season (all hail @Stuhoo for the steadfast leadership on that front lol), but anyone thinking he resigns is living in fantasyland. Mike Woodson is not resigning, and almost certainly is not getting fired midseason (and personally I see no real advantage to midseason). He will be gone after we lose in the BTT. Still would not be surprised if it is an ugly divorce, but hopefully he retires and we all move on.

Well, a mid-season firing would be an embarrassment to Woodson almost equivalent to the embarrassment that he's brought to the IU program. t!t-for-tat works for me.

I agree that the list sucks but we need to be realistic. Is May going to leave Michigan? I don’t think so. We had our chance to get him last offseason but Buckner decided to prove a point to our fan base by retaining Woody. Pearls not leaving Auburn so don’t get your hopes up. We haven’t been good in a decade, are we really expecting people are going to be lining up to come here to coach?

I’ve completely stopped watching IU basketball and won’t support the program for as long as Mike Woodson is the coach. He’s so pathetic and the fact we’ve had to put up with him for 4 years shows how unserious we are. I can’t wait for him to get fired. I am looking forward to the next hire and having someone new at the helm. Who would be our realistic candidates? Micah Shrewsberry, Mick Cronin, Chris Mack? Who else

Pass on all 3 you named.

Wow, yesterday was busy for myself but I was very jolly to see we got a huge win last night for the tank train.

Another blowout loss this season to further prove Mike Woodson is not the guy for the job. As bad as it sounds, I hope there are more L’s in store as it’s the ONLY way to get Woodson out of Bloomington.

The Tank Train is back on track and heading towards Bloomington!
