Fire Coach Woodson Thread

What makes you think he won’t get another year? He’s a former player with very influential/wealthy friends. If the inside information is to be believed, the AD wasn’t the one who decided to hire him. IU’s expectations are a fraction of what they were 20 years ago. Put all that together and I see zero reason to believe he’ll be fired if we make the tournament this year.

Making excuses and lowering expectations are the only things IU has done consistently well the last 25 years.

You forgot to add IU's history of not moving on when they should.

Buddy, I just said if IU plays with the same effort and energy there’s 10-11 more wins on the schedule. I don’t know which games they’ll show up for and which ones they won’t, it’s college basketball…this your first year watching?

Surely you took Penn State given they had a 73% chance of winning right? IU’s as talented as any team in the B10, if they match their opponents intensity, they’ll win more games than the lose.

I’m not going to ask you pick our wins and losses but as you noted, the team is plenty talented it’s just a matter of whether they show and play with E&E.

i believe you are still high on Woodson but having your team play consistently with E&E is table stakes and on the coach in terms of roster assembly and in season demanding that of them, no?

IU’s expectations are a fraction of what they were 20 years ago. Put all that together and I see zero reason to believe he’ll be fired if we make the tournament this year.

Here is the case he will be fired after this season:

- Quinn's Chairmanship is over this summer, and he is likely leaving the board.  Yes he is around this spring, but he is a lame duck and that matters.  What is he really going to do?

- Scott got an extension and a raise in May.  He is responsible for the incredible turnaround in FB, the sport that really matters and drives the entire success of the athletic dept.  He has a lot more influence now.  He can't be fired by Quinn, Quinn isn't even his boss.

- Cook and Simon upped the NIL, but that likely came with expectations to compete for the conference and make the second week of the tourney.  I think they like Woody, but they're not a Quinn or Ferguson level allies, and I doubt they enjoyed being down 40 to Louisville or potentially inching into the tourney and not really being competitive.  Basically, their NIL has been wasted to date.  Keep in mind Cook and Simon also probably like Scott and respect what he has done with FB.  Cook and Simon aren't mindless Woody supporters, they know IUBB is irrelevant right now.

- HS recruiting has been very poor for two years.  Woody had one good portal when he had bags of cash to spend.

- Donations and attendance are down.  Probably doesn't move the needle much, but it's another negative sign.

- All these bad stories about Woody, well if you know anyone around the program, they'll confirm the stories are more or less true, and there are probably many more we don't know about.  However, people around the program know all the stories.  This reinforces he isn't the guy.

I can't see the future, but if Woody doesn't compete for the conference and win some tourney games, IU would have spent top-5 NIL for basically no return.  And last year was bad too.  That's probably enough to allow Scott to make a change.

Woody does still have conference play left to make a case to keep his job.  It's not likely, but it's possible it happens.  We have a $6M roster and quite a bit of talent despite the coaching deficiencies.

Give me 7/8 at home and one on the road, 11-9 and heavy bubble team.

As of today 6 of those home wins would be 6 Q1 wins to go along with 2 road wins that would be Q1.  11-9 in the second strongest conference with 0 Q 3 losses and 8 Q1 wins would be a heavy bubble team?   That’s a strong bubble

That wasn't really the question. You'd get an award for deflecting though

Because picking and choosing wins and losses in a sport as fluid as college basketball is such a stupid and futile exercise. Half you clowns picked Penn State in a blowout today.

Ok - snowing outside, got nothing better to do, so here it is:

Currently, we are 3-1 in the Big 10, 12-3 overall. Here is our remaining Big 10 schedule, with Matchup Predictor per ESPN (IU favorite in BOLD) for each of the games:

Jan 8th – USC. IU listed as a 65.4 % favorite.

Jan 11th - @ Iowa. Iowa listed as 70.3 % favorite.

Jan 14th - Illinois. Illini listed as a 70.9 % favorite.

Jan 17th - @ Ohio St. Buckeyes listed as a 78.2 % favorite.

Jan 22nd - @ Northwestern. Wildcats listed as a 73 % favorite.

Jan 26th - Maryland. Terrapins listed as a 59.7 % favorite.

Jan 31st - @ Purdue. Boilers listed as a 81.4 % favorite.

Feb 4th - @ Wisconsin. Badgers listed as a 75.8 % favorite.

Feb 8th - Michigan. Wolverines listed as a 60.9 % favorite.

Feb 11th - @ Michigan St. Spartans listed as a 81.4% favorite.

Feb 14th - UCLA. Bruins listed as a 58.3 % favorite.

Feb 23rd - Purdue. Boilers listed as a 60 % favorite.

Feb 26th - Penn St. IU listed as a 54 % favorite.

Mar 1st - @ Washington. IU listed as a 52.2 % favorite.

Mar 4th - @ Oregon. Ducks listed as a 76.9 % favorite.

Mar 8th – Ohio St. Buckeyes listed as a 55.2 % favorite.

So, where do the wins come from? @AH1971, your thoughts on where we pick up enough wins to make the dance? Let's hear from everyone, pro and con Woodson. Be realistic.

USC , PSU, & WASH are the only ones that I feel semi confident as wins based on the team we've seen up to this point

I'm not all that confident we beat PSU at home. I think they'll shoot better than 3/21 from deep next time, because everybody shoots better in Assembly Hall, and by February 26th I expect team morale to be a lot worse than it is right now.

Yeah ok bud lol keep telling yourself that. I don't know that I saw anyone pick PSU in a blowout though. They've beaten a Rutgers team that was missing it's top player and a PSU that most likely won't shoot that lousy from 3 and FT for the rest of the season

I don't do moral victories. This team has yet to play a team worth moving the needle for most.

Lack of non-con. Had we split UL and Zags I’d say 11-9 and we are in.

Most of the three point makes came in transition after beating PSU’s full court pressure. But you watched the game right?

Are questioning I didn’t?  It’s the way we should play all the time.  And Reneau should come off the bench because when he is in, the sticks

Committee doesn’t separate non con wins and conference wins.   8 Q1 wins is 8Q1 wins.  If and this is a big if IU had 8 Q1 wins with O  Q3 losses they are probably wearing white in the first round

In the real world this would be a no brainer but this is iu. There is no way they fire him if he makes the tourney imo unless the booster buddies say we aren't giving another dime. It really comes down to the cooks and Simon's imo. If they say he did his job he is back. That is just reality.

Stop the name calling and move on.   IU won a road game against a projected tourney team as of today.  Nothing more and nothing less.   Don’t care if they got lucky or not it’s a win and it’s over.   It’s 1 piece of a puzzle that they got.   Next game is the next opportunity to add a piece or lose a piece.

So your existence on this platform is basically just to be combative? That would explain your choice of thread topics to frequent when you do finally show up and grace everybody with your holiest of opinions.

Today's board reaction is par for the course because most people on here can differentiate between a good team winning and an average team just getting by thanks to some good fortune.

Enough people who have some kind of finger on the pulse have said he's gone after the season, barring a miraculous tourney run.

Except for the Hoosiers, 1-20 against Winthrop comes to mind

I thought Penn St wasn't good enough to be a 73% favorite, but was certainly better than IU to win. Took PSU having their worst shooting day of the season - by far - for us to win by SIX.

IF we were any good at all, we'd have won by 20+. But we're not - even with the effort and energy of today. Again, if you're not being disingenuous that's easy to admit.

USC, Maryland (maybe), UCLA (maybe), Penn St, Washington, Ohio St (maybe). That's best case scenario, put's us at 9-11 conference, 18-16 overall. Seriously doubt they get into the dance with the record, which they spent $6 million for the roster on NIL.

Quit dodging here. What games do they win of the 16 remaining?
