Fire Coach Woodson Thread

If IUFB takes off how much would losing donor money really affect our sports programs considering the money FB brings in?

The players will get paid with rev share (school pays players directly) and NIL starting next season.  The rev share is capped, so the differentiator is still NIL which isn’t capped, and NIL can only come from donors, so we still need them.

Basically, our athletic dept revenue is #25-30 in the country.  We need everything we can get to keep getting more competitive with the schools with big FB programs.

Is Indiana men’s basketball actively recruiting or buying any players for the future upon retirement or job changes of current players.  Does coach have enough players already to last him until retirement?

Or is that just an off season activity now?

The king just offered some guy a scholarship. Not ranked I believe. But I think mostly the king just buys players in the spring. I'd love to see the king try and put a roster together with only 2 million in NIL. He would be so screwed.

See where his strategy is high school decommits and spring transfer portal.

Maybe, he utilizes his cell phone (great opportunities for those who might have a 20+ point night) and coach reads it and offers the guy a job to play for IU….in his developmental player program.

The cynic in me sees Woodson screwing over his replacement with offering a team full of "not ranked guys"... kind of a big middle finger to "the school he loves" on his way out.

He is sure showing how much he really loves IU, he’s ripping them off for over $10 million dollars because he’s to lazy to do the work.

That would be too much work for him.

A new coach would still do better than him. So there’s that.

@Hornsby @Pagoda Thank you for the replies. So am I understanding correctly that if the school gets more revenue, players would get a higher share? But I assume as well it's probably not near as much as NIL money with the cap on it. Correct or am I misunderstanding?

Even if Woodson pulls something out of his rear this year, one decent/good year doesn't constitute keeping a coach that hasn't proven he's good enough to extend. Maybe I'm an a$$ but I don't care how many they win this year, he's not good enough.

One of you Negative Nancy's please explain how a lane duck trustee is going to get Dolson fired if Dolson fires Woodson. For Domain to do that he'd likely have at least Whiten on his side. I just don't see it happening so I need details from one of you how Buckner will pull that off. You're giving him waaaay too much credit.

Hell, if it really got ugly Dolson could just back off until the summer and then fire Woodson as a f-you to Buckner on July 1. There's nothing Buckner could do to stop that and everyone knows it.

It could also "leak" that the university wants to fire Woodson but Buckner is blocking it and all the dirt that entails. Destroy his legacy.

I doubt Woodson has as much booster support after this disappointing season is over.

Don’t forget it’s all premised on making the Tournament.  That can be considered a “success” even though some had higher expectations.   With most programs, that is a good year.   This “success” makes administrators wishy washy and less likely to make drastic change.   Thus, Dolson doesn’t have as much support for a firing as he would if we aren’t close to the tournament.   It would be a bold move to fire a coach who makes the tournament, especially if you don’t have a sure thing lined up.   All I’m saying is if we make the tournament, don’t be shocked if Woodson is back.

I’m not sure if this is what you’re asking, but the cap is a dollar cap, not a percentage of revenue cap.  It is projected to be $20 million first year, but will certainly go up in future years.

Rev share cap is $20.5M. So no.

It's still sad given this team was picked to finish 2nd and he had the highest nil in the big ten just barely making the tourney could save him. But that's the way iu rolls.

Yes there are dozens of reasons he should be let go regardless of results.  Wins are the result of sound processes — recruiting, player development, game planning, coaching, etc.   Woodson is severely deficient in all of those aspects of a program, which is why his results are less than they would otherwise project to be.   But it will take balls to move if the rest of the administration is good with mediocrity.

I think quinn certainly wanted to be able to say Woodson rescued the program from the dead and brought it back. The reality is archie stunk but it wasn't dead Woodson started out with tjd and a decent roster. It's all bs. Crean is the only one who ever actually rebuilt it from the dead. He just could not sustain it. Woodson really hasn't done much of anything and without nil oh boy. Crean made two sweet sixeteens but never competed. In reality we have not made a tourney run since 2002. So unless Woodson can do that he didn't bring us back period.

If the administration is ok with mediocrity, they would be ok with saying Woodson brought back from the dead with 3 of 4 NCAA tournament births and then they could move on from that and let him ride off into the sunset.  But then again QBall could argue the other side of it to keep.  It’s a razor thin line but we aren’t making the tournament

Still blows my mind we have made it past the sweet 16 once since 1992. That is total incompetence from the administration at a school like iu.
