Fire Coach Woodson Thread

It certainly would be warranted... but the buyout drops by half in March... and it would steal focus from the football program... though Woodson finding a way to pee in Cignetti's corn flakes, even by being fired, would be completely in character.

Nope—buyout is full until 2026. He’s getting a mil a year unless he somehow retires and takes less. Part of his year extension last year. 8.4mil until basically Q2 2026.

Please spell it out for me.  I see nothing between Crean's ears or his conditioning comment.

To me, it is all about the players not performing...and it is not conditioning.  It seems mental.  Or the lack of execution.  But more probably, it is the lack of the coaches in preparing and motivating and putting the team in position to win.

What do you think that Crean means?  He tries to sell that he knows more than he does.  Actually, never mind.  I do not give a small f... what Crean thinks or says about Indiana or almost any other subject.

Conditioning is more than just a physical notion

Whoever compared IU basketball to Nebraska football is accurate in many ways. I remember when Raiola was the second coming over the summer just like we had a second 5 that could compete for the top half of the Big Ten. Did we hang our offseason championship banner yet? Woody and Co. couldn't coach their way out of a wet paper bag.

Pretty sure Woodson is hanging two banners before next week’s Sam Houston game - one for the off-season championship and then a second for the preseason title game win over Tennessee.

They lost two very close games and then lost the third game yes. We're not the same. We have the same problems for 4 years. I fear if we played uconn this weekend we lose by 20 plus. I bet on them first 2 games and watched the games we aren't at that level. We won today and that is better than losing. We had good offense today but defense sucked. We are in trouble. Don't watch any other good teams if you want to feel good about iu

I was being facetious!  Everyone on this board knows where I stand about MW and the program but it is good to see that jack*** Hurley lose all 3 games in Maui!
MW will be gone after this season, I believe that now after watching what happened this weekend.  I wish it was sooner than that but all know that probably won’t happen.  The bad part is, MW is going to walk away a very rich man laughing all the way to the bank after taking the University to the cleaners!

True.

The OP did not say that.  He said something like:  "...read between the lines..." about conditioning.  Clearly teaching how to win; practicing how to win; doing the work necessary to win are vital.

Crean is a very hard worker.  He is smart too.  But he oversells everything.  And he misses the most important things to get good execution on the court during games.  Sometimes one has to try to get the best out of certain matchups.  Keep it simple. And working harder does not mean working smarter. A lot goes on in the months leading up to the season.  And one has to look at stamina and focus in the last 24 hours before a game.

Just wish he would focus on the basics rather than playing 5th-dimensional chess and promising to attain all of the universes. These are college students.  They do not need 400 sets.

He is a decent broadcast analyst. Sometimes, he recruits well but mostly does not put the right pieces together.  Just not a great coach.

After taking HIS university to the cleaners. Somebody needs to hold Buckner accountable for this crap.

The team might get over the hump when Woodson is promoted to spectator..

lol, can’t we at least get a coach in waiting to pay millions to since we have so much to burn?

I have no sympathy for them. No one forced them to give that to a poor candidate that wouldn't have been considered if he didn't play here 40 years ago.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Maybe they'll finally learn.

My thoughts are this. Firing Woodson mid season doesn’t mean much for thus season. Nobody on staff will do any better.

But it would signal they are serious about performance.  Waiting till his buyout is low is just more of the same strategy of trying to fail less instead of winning

Yeah, well they’re probably worried about his ego taking a hit but in that case, maybe they should just promote him to some type of faux basketball athletic Director like they did with Matta and let him ride off into the sunset.

I was thinking the buyout dropped next March 31... but it's not until March 21, 2026 thanks to the contract extension he got... so waiting for the buyout to drop means suffering through the rest of this season and all of next... just cut him loose now... this season is already spiraling down, so, cut our losses and send Mediocre/Manic/Meandering Mike to his "golden" years... yeah, he'll make bank, but we'll be shed of his incompetence, malfeasance and absolute mismanagement of our basketball program.

They only way they “fire” him during the season is if he “retires.”   It will be bad enough firing an alum who got us “back to the tournament” twice.

Not sure an ego as large as his can suffer a hit, regardless of what we do... he's insufferable, arrogant, and truly believes that he's the smartest man in any room.

When Dolson finally does the deed, I don't want Mike Woodson or his name anywhere around the Indiana University basketball program. Period. He had a decent legacy here at one time, but he's completely destroyed that with is incompetence as "coach".

I would like for fans to make this displeasure known at Assembly Hall. Under normal circumstances you never want that. But it is warranted after that display in the Bahamas and Mike so thin skinned it could actually help bring about a change sooner than expected.

No problem with this approach.
