Fire Coach Woodson Thread

Recommended Posts

So, reading even pro MW folks, it seems the overwhelming majority see this as likely a decent to good season, allowing MW to bow out gracefully as a program rebuilder.

Glad that we sacrificed 5 Star recruits that wanted to play at IU, a sh!t load of NIL that any coach could have used successfully, and a year of everyone's lives, so Woodrow could have good feels.

Let's hope his players can find their own threes and he decides to not quit on his players again this season.

If not, he may need a few more years to feel good enough about himself to "retire."

I think this season has one of two options. We're really good or the wheels fall off. I have my opinion on what will happen. Then we will see how things go.

For me, I'll believe the expectations when I see it. I realize it was just a scrimmage, but while I saw some nice talent, I didn't see much to make me believe we are going to be a great shooting team (outside of Goode). I think this needs to be a good shooting team for a whole lot to change. But I'll be happy to be proven wrong.

And if you're right?

I fully expect him to be allowed to "retire" gracefully so that he is not dismissed. And if he rejects that option then get dismissed.

That is the most common employment practice in the world when someone is beloved by the organization but it's irrefutably way past time for them to move on.

Fixed that for ya.

Yes, he has a massive ego but there is one thing that is being overlooked but you and others. The raise he got didn't include an extension. That means that after this year, he has 2 years left on his contract. In college, unlike the pros, that is extend or let go decision time. All Dolson has to do is to tell Woodson that he isn't getting an extension and push him into retirement. If he loves IU like he claims, that is the choice he'll make since his staying with short time on his contract will completely kill his already pathetic HS recruiting and would even hurt his portal recruitment for players with multiple years of eligibility left.

Mediocre Mike Woodson may love IU,  but I guaran-damn-tee you that he loves him some Mediocre Mlke Woodson even more. If he goes without a natty, it will be kicking and screaming. His ego is too big for any other way.

I love discussions that produce optimism.

Rock on brother - never too tired to hear you out, especially on awesome coach speculation like (do not whisper his name bradstevens )

A lot of it I think has been shared here in one form of fashion over the last couple years. It just got brought up over there and I had once guy arguing with me non stop about it because it just didn’t make since to HIM. It got old lol

Leave it over there. I'm tired lol

I’m with ya on that. My mental and emotional state is so much healthier when I’m convinced Brad Stevens is a ship that has sailed.

Wheels won't come off.  Way too much talent.  It will be somewhere in between really good and bad.

I'm not confident that Stevens will ever come to IU, but if he did, I'm highly confident he'd win big. I don't think there is a better.coach out there, Hurley included.

After Hurleys last two years you’d be hard pressed to convince an unbiased observer that Stevens is a better college coach in the modern game than Hurley. A lots changed in the college game since Steven’s was around.

I have been a big Steven’s supporter since way back but I think I’d choose Hurley given the choice for IU. I don’t think I would have to think about it very long either.

Sometimes people learn stuff and they don't want to reveal the source; this isn't that scenario. It's not like I'm discussing it over lunch with Dolson and Buckner.

However, it just that it makes too much sense. In every single way:

  • For Dolson,
  • For Whitten,
  • For the big money boosters,
  • With the buyout terms as of next March,
  • With the lack of recruits that would decommit - in fact, a new coach would likely generate more high school recruits for next year and I'm pretty certain that with the right choice Sisley would be more in than he already is,
  • With the ability to quickly rebuild given the portal landscape
  • With Woody's age,
  • With Woody's almost assured ability to go out on good terms, because this roster is going to win plenty enough,
  • Now that we will have given Woody his 'no quick dismissal' treatment.

It all works so, so well.

This is how I see things. Makes the most sense.

Puts the program in good graces with prospective coaches (although I think Dolson has an idea who it will be)….

Sends a beloved former player the chance to ride off into the sunset and avoids an ugly divorce. No matter how you try to rationalize it….. firing Woodson would have AWFUL optics. And that matters.

Woodson’s ego remains intact due to the fact that the program is in a much better place now than when he took the job. *any reasonable fan has to admit this.

Feels like we have a legitimate opportunity to enter into a golden age of IU athletics.

Hope we take advantage of that opportunity.

Methinks that Curt Cignetti, Teri Moren, Myles Rice, Omar Ballo, and Bryson Tucker have brightened the mood of this board, and yes, even the mood of this thread, considerably.

Perhaps so (and I may be repeating myself), but Woodson needs to go... and it cannot happen soon enough to please me.

Well sure—you’ve consistently and adamantly said so.

But look at how gentlemanly you are about it now that Coach Cig has us all blissed out!
