Class of '66 Old Fart

IUBB vs Iowa - Tuesday, 01.30.24 @ 7:00 on BTN

Recommended Posts

How does Iowa always seem to have at least one player on its roster from Indiana that wasn't on anyone's radar until he landed at Iowa? If you're a 2-3 star recruit playing in Indiana, what is the draw to Iowa? Does Iowa just focus more on players in this state that aren't getting many looks from IU and Purdue?

Fran recruits the top players from the state as well they just go elsewhere.  Fran recruits the lower level Indiana kids to keep the relationships with Indiana high school coaches open.   Smart move.  It allows those players to still play in the B1G  that would be the draw

Makes sense. I'm just trying to imagine being a high school basketball player in a place that idolizes them and going 2 states west to a state with fans who are more interested in wrestling.

Good Lord. How about imagining running actions for him outside to put real scoring out there abd open up the floor

I was going to say the same thing, but Woodson is married to the two post idea.

Whether you idolize them or not doesn’t matter, if they don’t recruit you. If you’re from Indy, for example, and go to Iowa your family has a chance to go to a bunch of home games plus pretty easy drives to road games at IU, UI, NW, PU, MSU and OSU.

Plus, you’re in the B1G, more likely to play in the tournament than not, and their fan support is pretty good despite being a wrestling/football school.

24th nationally in attendance last year with an average a little over 12000.
