Painter’s first five seasons:

9-19

22-12 (round of 32)

25-9 (round of 32)

27-10 (sweet 16)

29-6 (sweet 16)

He built his program almost immediately and has had few down years since. Woodson’s IU program is spiraling downward after just 2.5 seasons.

9-19 our fans would have lost it. I knew it was the wrong hire

Will be interested to see how Nebraska fares the rest of the season. But No pushback here on IU not being good.
The roster is flawed, we are what we are.
I just looked and cj gunn was ranked higher than Braden Smith and fletcher lawyer coming out of hs. Our system and culture is so flawed its unreal.

Nebraska is just one game... But Florida Gulf Coast, Army, Wright State, UConn, Louisville, Harvard, Michigan, Auburn, Morehead State, Kennesaw State, Nebraska... That's 11 games... Same issues every game.
Exactly it's been the whole season. Our best win is probably bottom feeder maryland.

Well, that was a bad game.

I'm not in the camp of panicking after a bad game, to me it's overreaction and predictable.

That said, we have the same issues under Woodson that we've had for a couple years now, lack of outside shooting and wing play -- which for me starts with Woodson / the staff. We don't emphasize the outside shot, and now we have trouble defending it, which is mind-boggling.

We have shooting, we've seen it in a couple games this year, run plays for the perimeter game, run plays for Bako, etc., stop with the well, take the shot if it's really good and our only real option (that's what I see). Emphasize it, play inside-out -- we just saw an inside-out game, where is it now?

And all that said, I'd bet on seeing this same team now win some of the games we expect them to lose. They will bounce back, and Nebraska is not a bad team, that wasn't a "bad" loss come tourney selection time, a lot of this calling for a coaching search is over-reaction and premature. If we get to the end of conference play and they've still played like this and we're an NIT team (and we may be), discussion makes more sense then, to me

Flip side to all of this is how quickly we forget we had JHS last season and he was a truly outstanding guard. Staff's focus in recruiting and portal should be guards and wings. If they fail that again, I may be jumping on the coaching search wagon

If you just want to gripe about the fans then whatever. Breaking news: fans of a formerly elite program are disgruntled. You can’t consistently put out a **** product and get mad when the consumers are upset by it. The fans weren’t the ones who were blown out by Nebraska last night, and the fans aren’t the ones who have consistently lost for the past two decades. Yet the fans still keep showing up. There will come a time when they stop, and that’s when the program will finally die.

Would have lost it on message boards! Social media and wherever else yes. Just like if Woodson can load up on a bunch of talent and win next year there will be few critics. Got to win or at least not look insanely bad while losing.

If people saw a bright future it would be different. We signed one recruit and will be left scrambling in the spring. Not a recipe for building a culture imo. Will likely be alot harder to seel top talent in the spring also if we miss the ncaa.

Yup. This season is long from over but if the time ever came it would likely be more or less that simple.

MW: "S**t give me that $12.5 million."

SD: "The payout is spread over 20 years; how about $9.5m mucho pronto?"

MW: "S**t; that'll work."

Call to Dusty, who currently makes $1.25 million annually:

SD: "The job is yours for $3.5 million annually."

DM: "With lots of incentives? Yup, I'm in."

So we'd save another $3 million that way, because Woody makes $4.2m annually.

Total cost? $5-7 million. Pocket change for a major revenue business like IUBB.

tl;dr - buyouts are nothing more than accounting magic tricks. I might make that my posting signature.

Not really.   Top talent don’t really care how a team did.  Most think they will be the reason to turn a team around.   Plenty of examples of top talent kids going to bad teams    NIL will impact that as well

I've seen several tweets saying the same about Woodson deflecting onto players, which it very well could be and I see your point. At the same time, publicly calling out your two Senior guards who aren't performing and a burger boy who is not performing is justified and maybe meant to send a message to them. Perspective - "I thought Alford played horrible tonight" from Woodson's coach in a post-game presser.

I don't have a problem with calling out your players in the press. I just think he didn't also adequately acknowledge the role the staff had in this loss (awful game plan). I know he doesn't enjoy dealing with the press and you're unlikely to ever get real insight from press conferences anyway, but it does leave a bit of a bad taste in my mouth. The locker room must be (should be) pretty tense right now.

The program is in trouble when the Baby Boomers are gone and Gen X starts to pass.  I am the tail end of Gen X. I was a senior when Knight was fired.  I was 21 at the time and we made the NCAA tournament all but 1 year of my life up to that point.  We have made it 12 times since and 6 of those 12 occurred within 8 years of him being let go.  I had my oldest son in 2008.  We have only made the tournament 6 times in his 15 years.  He isn't really interested much at all and I don't think he is an outlier for his age group.

This program has a really big problem if it doesn't change things quick.  Those who remember what it was are not getting any younger and those behind us haven't had a whole lot to want to throw time and money behind.  We are well on our way to being Iowa in a generation.

You have the opportunity for a 2 for 1 while down 10, and there is no basketball IQ to push the pace and make it so there is a good shot. I don’t get it. Bad basketball.

I have said this same thing for ever and it never changes with Woody's teams.

I remember people wanting to run make Davis out of town the year he made he championship. We haven't made it past the sweet sixteen since.

MD resigned during the year our team was a 7th seed and finished 4th in conference. Imagine if DJ never got hurt that year... My, times have changed.

I mean Rutgers just got Bailey and Harper. Cal once got Jaylen Brown and Ivan Rabb.
