So was our kicking game

Very typical of IUFB unfortunately. Very rarely good in all areas. IUFB doesn't have to be a juggernaut in any one particular area, just have to be at least solid everywhere. I think where IUFB has missed the boat over the years is not building the team for playmakers but building around playmakers. It's difficult for any QB, WR, RB, CB to make plays if you don't have decent lineman and good special teams (field position). I think the CTA era is the epitome of this. They had a couple good OL lineman, but for the most part it was always the main issue on both sides.

Don't disagree with anything. I will say... our punter currently is excellent haha

I definitely still feel like our front 7 is a weak point… we got bullied up front in a few games last year, especially by Rutgers, not a lot of reason to believe that will fundamentally change… Carpenter was a very good Sun Belt D Lineman but he’s small.

but this is the most talented offense we’ve had since that Covid year.

I honestly think a Smith/Kidwell/Katic/Stephens/Wedig offensive line has the potential to be pretty solid, assuming that’s what we roll with.

any word on J. Lucas?

I check in occasionally in various places on him and Camper. On my most recent check, Louisville felt good about him. Poor man's Rondale Moore, so I could certainly see the fit there.

Edit: looks like he was recently at Miss State. Closer to home and their recruiting coordinator was at IU when Jaylin came in.

Somewhere else to be the worst point returner I've ever seen.

Like the worst at catching punts?

Doing a quick guess at our starting units on both sides of the ball as presently constructed:

Offense:

QB: Rourke

RB: Howland

WR1: McCulley

WR2: Sarratt

WR3: Cross

TE: Horton

LT: Smith

LG: Kidwell

C: Katic

RG: Stephens

RT: Wedig

Defense:

DE: Kamara

DT: Blidi

DT: Carpenter

DE: Carr

LB: Fisher

LB: Walker

CB: Minor

CB: Toomer

CB: Sharpe

S: Asbury

S: Jones

offense seems relatively straight forward, but definitely a lot of competition on D

I think you'll see one of the JMU backs or Ellison as the "starting" RB, possibly Henderson if he does come back. Howland will get touches but I'm guessing most in situational down and distances.

He began the year returning all punts. He was horrid and replaced.

Great. So he probably isn't going to be a punt returner at his next stop. What's your point in this?

Catching punts is hard af lol ... not sure if anyone else on here has ever had the misfortune of having to catch them in a game, but yeah, not too easy.

That's not a job for the faint of heart, that's for sure. They need to bring back the "halo" rule in some form if you ask me. I don't understand why a guy can just stand one inch from your face.

Really that no one should care about him coming back or not. Because whether anyone wants to admit it or not, he wasn't good... Outside of kickoff. Obviously he kind of got screwed having to play RB instead of WR, but even when at WR, he wasn't good. We've already gotten dudes in the portal that would keep him on the bench and I doubt he'd want to come back to only return kickoffs.

You really should have just said that IMO. I agree; he's not a key piece or a key retention.
