I think he is saying that he committed to Providence too early and is just making sure he doesn’t make the same mistake again. Idk for sure, but it’s quite an interesting comment.

Feels like Woody is being stubborn to the detriment of the teams long term success. Between what some close to the program have mentioned (sourced or rumors), what he’s said publicly about who we should be targeting, etc., it really seems like he has an unrealistic expectation of who we should be targeting. I love that he has IU “sitting at the table” with all these 5 star kids but we aren’t Kansas, Duke, and Kentucky. 

 

What about this kid says that he can’t be as good or better than X? We need guys like that in the program. Guys who can develop into dudes. This kid may be one already by the time he hits campus. 

 

I wonder if the rest of the staff gets ticked off with situations like this under Woody. I imagine they’ve scouted him and identified him as being worthy of a scholly, yet the ol man keeps vetoing it. 

 

not claiming to know… just trying to piece things together. There is also some real urgency to to fill the gaping holes at the G position, so obviously people like me are going to worry and be critical. Especially when players like Davis, who seems to be ready to commit, and the staff likes, but our head guy isn’t trusting the staffs scout. Frustrating bc he’s an immediate upgrade at the PG position to what we have now,  we need some more depth at guard beyond him, and we banked a ******* scholly for no apparent reason this year when we have a huge need. 

 

Whatever. I own a construction business. What the hell would I know anyways.

Woodson isn't that great of a coach so he probably does need five star talent to win. So I can see why that's what he is going after imo. He isn't going to be able to take guys like painter does and build a team. Woodson system is too one on one play.

I kind of took it as he likes the coaches, etc…but they are coming a little slow because he was committed to Providence early…in other words there is just starting to be a lot of communication….i could be way off but it was a weird quote for sure lol

Don’t love the style of play, but I really freaking hate the broadcasts. The announcers. The camera movements and angles. The way the court’s lit sometimes. It’s just obnoxious. I watch for the kids with IU offers, but otherwise, no thanks.

The only public offer since his de-commitment is Georgia Tech. Kind of a strange deal. Woody made a comment at 1 point that they wouldn’t offer a player before some sort of visit, and then they punted on that immediately. Almost feels like there may be something academic or personal that schools need to get comfortable with, but I’ve never seen that even insinuated anywhere.

As bad as we need guards and he seems like a decent one, then why the heck not offer?  We can’t always and probably shouldn’t go after so many 5 stars.  I would rather go after guys that will bring stability to the program, 5 star players seem to have their own agenda, IMO

No idea what the story is. IU, Bama and Texas A&M were immediately attached to him. He spoke about all of them in an interview a few weeks ago. And yet there is no publicly announced offer from any of them. Definitely odd.

Doesn’t Woody have a thing about not offering a kid unless they make a visit?  Probably not but thought there was something like that back when Fife supposedly offered some kid Woody was not ready to
