Sad news. He was part of one of my favorite teams at Indiana (Eric Gordon, DJ White, Lance, Bassett, etc.)

RIP.

Very sad. RIP. I was at so many of those games. Tough player.

Actually happened to stumble upon the below link of an interview with Eric Gordon and AJ Guyton from 2 years ago regarding that team. It was a really good listen. Here’s the the link.

Very sad news but are you serious that is one of your favorite teams. For me that was my least favorite team of all time

Scott, you’ve made it very clear about your position on the 07-08 team throughout the years. Regardless, it shouldn’t come as a shock to you, that many of Hoosier Nation found that team to be exciting — They were a dominant group that started the season 17-1 and  despite a couple of bad apples…had quite a few high character guys that were easy to root for. Regardless, let’s not turn this into a bash of the 2008 team…a young man who donned the cream and crimson tragically lost his life.

I’m with Scott on this one.FWIW, Gordon, DJ, and Stemler didn’t enjoy the experience either.

Very sad and probably not the day to discuss though. RIP J Ellis.

Didn't think Sun Times was behind a paywall. Sorry. Car crash. Hit a pillar of a viaduct.

I thought for sure Ellis would get a triple double for us.  His numbers were never spectacular but he did a bit of everything.  A really talented player.

Rest in peace brother

Came close.....10 pts, 10 assists, and 7 rebounds once.

That team kind of embodied everything IU basketball post Knight. Desperate to return to glory, bunch of corners cut, and talented but flawed. Lots of hype and early success only to blame out. Can’t say I was a huge fan either.

I did appreciate certain aspects of Ellis’s game. RIP
