Have been reading as much as I can on young Mr.Catchings and have noticed 2-3 posters mentioning attitude issues ie T that cost his team vs Ben Davis. Was wondering just how serious an issue it is. Is he a selfish/me first player or hot head with anger issues or just immature and thinks he is always right. Do not want to bring in someone who would upset team chemistry especially w/o strong team leadership.

They lost by like 40. Be hard to pin that on one dude.

Maybe it’s just Khristian Lander PTSD, but Catchings possibly reclassifying feels like a bad idea. I think he’s a good player now and will eventually be a good college player, but has a lot of work to do (like all HS juniors). Only seen him a few times though.

Assuming we get a couple more decent transfers, will he really get the minutes to justify a re-class? I’m not seeing it, but just my opinion

Lander just wasn’t good enough and was poorly evaluated.

I was at that game, sitting next to the tunnel 2-3 rows up from the floor. I never noticed him doing anything during the 1st half. Early in the 3rd something happened that he got called for the T.
Was something said to him by someone from BD that he reacted to, then his reaction was what he got called for? And (if) the refs didn’t hear something else and never called something on BD, was that why he acted the way he did going to the bench?
I don’t know. Others will have to comment on whether it is an issue or a one-time thing. But without question he’s a talented player.

oof... look, I've coached enough HS basketball to know how poor the officiating can be at times. Especially once it gets escalated in any way. Refs can't handle it.

If this is all we have in terms of a "bad attitude" I'm not really sure this even discussing it is worth our time.

His getting a T does nothing for me. I wouldn't be shocked if it wasn't the ref's fault, to begin with, that's literally how poor they are, at times.

Agreed.

As I had said earlier, that was the only time I had seen him. Was my perception tainted because he was a Purdue commit? Possibly. He’s an incredible talent, though. Serious weight training and kid will be playing in the NBA someday.

I'll be honest while hearing of him in the past, I wasn't too familar with his game. Watched a few games he played in this morning before work. Really good athlete. Can tell he seems like someone who eventually will be in the NBA. I don't get one and done or reclass vibes from him. I hope he either stays at Brownsburg or maybe a prep school. Would love to see him at IU. I do feel like if he decommits IU would be the likely destination.

Don’t misunderstand me. I said, and do believe, young Mr. Catchings has work to do above the shoulders. Even more so note that he may be reclassifying. That’s just where he stands right now for me based on a VERY small sample size. Odds are he’ll grow and mature into the mentality required of a focused and resilient ball player, especially with Tamika being his aunt. I don’t know as much about his mother but with two professional ball players behind him it’s likely to be an effective guide.

I didn’t mean to imply he is uncoachable or a poor teammate or anything to that degree. It’s just noticeable when the star of a team is quick to have poor body language and is visibly frustrated after a couple bad beats in the biggest game of the season. I’d sum it up to composure. Being a dog and staying a dog regardless of the flow of the game.

If he wants to be IU-bound, that would be incredible and I wouldn’t turn him away. Heck, maybe that’s even a good sign of maturity in action! I’ll tell you this: I believe Woody would get more out of the kid than Painter.

Tamika Catchings is his aunt, his mother is Tauja Catchings.  Both played in the WNBA.

Dang it. I had forgotten that. It rings a bell now that its been pointed out. I hadn’t really kept tabs on him since the very first time I’d heard of him. Thanks fellas, corrected.

I believe former NBA player Harvey Catchings is in that lineage as well.

Beamer said his family/Purdue’s staff urged him to back off, and apparently his family is all for Purdue and wants him there

Well darn.  Kid is good.  Purdue has some nice pieces with Colvin/Catchings.  Maybe they will eventually strike out on a big.

We will see what will happen, apparently he doesn’t like the fact that IU didn’t offer him after his visit
