Dusty May - FAU HC - Former IU student manager

Recommended Posts

I think the context of how Woody said it makes all the difference in the world and in that context it's not nearly as earth shattering as it sounds vs. pulling a single sentence from an interview.
Yes. Thanks.

Dust May is the new shiny toy, but he "KNOWS" IU basketball!  That, to me, is where this conversation is allowable.  He could be Archie, but at least Dusty knows what to expect as a coach at IU!  I think Archie was in way over his head and wasn't willing or comfortable being in the fishbowl.  Who knows, maybe Dusty wants to build his own IU?

Yeah all that is true. But it’s also true that him & Dusty May are good friends. Not that hard to understand.

Just checking which way the wind is blowing this week.

Would Fife be a good assistant if he's against NIL, pissed off Indiana high school coaches, couldn't land recruits, thought he was the coach in waiting, and was generally an @$$? Just trying to clarify how it was a good thing he was fired but would also be a good thing to have him return.

I didn't read that Chris was saying it would be good to have him return....I think he was just pointing out they were friends.  Hell, maybe I'm reading it wrong?

Their is a current coach in south Florida that might be on the short list when CMW retires that is very good friends with Dane Fife.  This is fun isn’t it?

Whose main mentor is Mike Davis. Put them both back on the staff.

I took it as bringing Fife back despite what we were told he did to sabotage the program for his one season at IU. I guess I don't understand how he would be really good after doing so many things wrong in his one season as an assistant at IU.

Well, if that is true, I am on your side.

I was literally just making a fun comment.  I’m not saying bring Fife back and I don’t think Chris wants Davis back as an assistant under May lol.

I’m sorry I should have put DWS on my comment. Didn’t think I needed it but I guess so. I don’t think IU would put two guys they fired previously on a coaching staff.

There are no sides. I was trying to determine if we still thought Fife was a turd after everything he did to negatively impact IU or if he was back in our good graces.

Wouldn’t that depend on each person?  Some will think he is still a turd and others will want him back in their good graces.   There is no we answer on this one

No need to apologize. Your response to whether we liked Fife this week confused me. I guess we could bring Knight back on staff for discipline consulting.

Turd!  If, all things brought forth about his tenure here are true!

Absolutely, it should but as we both know there are influences to the way we think. I was simply checking to see if the winds had shifted to where we should think Fife could get the job done this time.

Good, I'll go back to thinking he's a turd again. Can you imagine being an assistant and not being able to land a single recruit to I freaking U?! haha How bad do you have to suck at your job?

You can think about Fife whatever you want!  I was saying if what he did/didn't do here were true I'm fine with the firing/dismissal.  I don't just like someone because they are an IU person.  If you're a Dick, you're a Dick, and should be referred to as such!

Just my opinion but I think there is 0 change Woody leaves early and he will coach out his contract and at least get one extension for recruiting purposes. The length of that contract extension will be the first tell in how long he really plans on doing this

This is likely true.  Since he started coaching, there seem to be only short time gaps in coaching.  He also wasn't an NBA guy who got to be a head coach and after he was fired, sat and waited around until he got another head coaching option.  Spent 6 years as the Hawks head coach and after he was fired was back in the game a year later as the Knicks assistant.  After being named the Knicks head coach and being fired after a couple of seasons despite a 109-79 record, he was an assistant with the Clippers the next season...and after that he eventually returned to the Knicks as an assistant.  Anybody who returns to be an assistant at a place they were once the head coach is a guy who loves the game.  I think his outward calm demeanor makes it seem like he's a guy ready for retirement but that doesn't seem to be the case IMO.

So if he said yes the winds have changed you would change your stance one way or the other on the matter?  I have a hard time believing people are influenced  by others in the way they think on a message board.  I don’t think it’s that deep
