Loaded Chicken Sandwich Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 TJD averaging the best numbers in B1G play as of now. What is the likelihood TJD could steal the B1G POY award from Edey? What would it take for TJD to win it? Could there be a co-POY situation? Do voters value non conference games when voting on B1G POY? B1G Numbers between the two as of February 17th..... Edey: 21.9 points, 13.1 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 2.7 blocks, 3 turnovers TJD: 21.9 points, 13.2 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 3.2 blocks, 3.3 turnovers Season numbers.... Edey: 22.2 points, 13 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 2.3 blocks, 2.5 turnovers TJD: 20.3 points, 11.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 3 blocks, 2.5 turnovers ALASKA HOOSIER 1 Quote
RaceToTheTop Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 IMO, he is the conference POY and Edey is the national POY. I think conference selections should be based on conference play only. That said, I think he has zero chance of actually being voted B1G POY. ALASKA HOOSIER, Loaded Chicken Sandwich and HoosierHoopster 3 Quote
JerryYeagley23 Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 I wish the voting was based on a more true definition of the words. If you’re just talking about the national (men’s basketball) player of the year it’s TJD all day. If you want to say Edey is the most dominant player, okay. Most valuable to his team. Maybe. Tallest. Yeah, he’s really big. But if you watch them both play, it’s very clear TJD is better at basketball and doing it in all kinds of different ways. Edey gets his statistics one-dimensionally. He’s the equivalent of the 600-lb hockey goalie IMO. Sure he’s effective. He’s a cheat code at 7’4”. But the domination Trayce is showing, with his passing out of the post, his blocked shots, his athleticism around the basket - he’s the better basketball player, and having the better season. southsidehoosier, go iu bb, hoosierfan6157 and 3 others 6 Quote
Hovadipo Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 The B1G started giving out a player of the week award over 40 years ago and TJD is the only player to ever win 4 in a row. If he doesn't win B1G POTY I hope we leave for the MAC. bigrod, southsidehoosier, ALASKA HOOSIER and 2 others 5 Quote

TJD has 4 and counting in the heart of conference season. HoosierHoopster and Loaded Chicken Sandwich 2 Quote

Purdue sure as hell believe their game over Duke and Gonzaga are incredibly important when it comes to B1G POY. Hovadipo 1 Quote

Yeah, like others have said, I doubt Trayce wins it because my guess is they'll look at the whole season. That would just be a load of doody, imo. I'm fine(ish) with Edey winning NPOY, assuming he and Purdue don't fall off a cliff. Loaded Chicken Sandwich 1 Quote

Yea I am not sure what the reasoning for looking at games against Florida A&M would be for B1G POY. hoosierbgh and HoosierHoopster 2 Quote
HoosierFan1994 Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 Doubt Trayce wins but it really should be between him and Edey. Should be pretty close too. May come down to the game next week. hoosierbgh 1 Quote

HoosierHoopster Posted February 18, 2023 Posted February 18, 2023 Yeah i tend to think they’ll give Edey extra weight for PU winning the B1G, if they do. Wish we’d not screwed the pooch first half ag NW for so many reasons Quote
Loaded Chicken Sandwich Posted February 18, 2023 Author Posted February 18, 2023 Mike DeCourcy says he only takes B1G game into account for B1G POY but that it isn't a universal thought among voters. He votes for AP POY. Hovadipo and ALASKA HOOSIER 2 Quote
