Has anyone mentioned that the officiating wasn't very good last night? Just thought I would bring it up. I'm guessing most of the talk has been about us not playing very well in the first half and all the turnovers.

I think most of the talk has been on the referee's effort.

Think the conversation focused on NW fans being big meanies to Kopp, even though IU fans filled the arena, and how that would never occur at the Hall. Solid effort from the nonexistent NW student section.

I would hope and think we HAVE a LOT to offer in the transfer portal.   That's why i've been saying, we will find out NIL/program attractiveness really soon.

Enjoying this season no doubt but also excited/worried to watch the off season moves.  We will need plenty.

Yep! I don't plan on focusing on that until after April 3rd when Woody/Trayce lead us to banner 6 :)

Have to think with Jalen/Trayce development this year IU would be attractice for a transfer PG and big man.

That's Armond "Money" Hill

haha..that guy cracks me up. Chris, what is his role? Is he really important? Or was it one of those things when Woody got hired he wanted to bring his buddy along? We all call him sleepy head. Sometimes he gets pretty animated. I think it was against Iowa and even last night.

I am tired, gumpy, and unfocused today at work.

This all could have been avoided if they would've just called that missed travel call.

  • then we wouldn't have gotten a T called on our bench
  • then Woodson wouldn't have touched the refs elbow for another T
  • then IU may not have went into such a hole
  • then we would have hit more shots and free throws
  • then IU would have made their adjustments and taken the lead earlier in the 2nd half.
  • then we would not be discussing the final charging call that could have put us in overtime
  • then we would have won putting us in 2nd place in the conference
  • then I would have gotten a good night's sleep and in a cheerful mood

Bottom line is...the officials should have called that travel!!!!!

I'd be saying give Banks a try.  If Gunn was shooting 30 clips better and offering other impacts on the game maybe.   Here's the thing right now.  We know Bates can hit the open 3.  We know he has bad decision making.  Gunn offers a certain level of defensive activity and a willingness to shoot from anywhere at any time but hasn't hit any.  Banks seems to provide the most fruitful minutes of the 3 so far except when Bates gets hot from 3.  Banks fits into the offense.  Rebounds.  Cuts.  Finds ways to impact the game.

So to me, I can see the want to play Bates because you feel good with him shooting open 3s but EVERYTHING else RN is bad.

Gunn, You know he's gonna Gunn.  That could be great for this team if he could show efficiency but some of his takes are interesting to say the least.

Banks-to me I feel he has the most to offer overall.

I'm pickin' up what you're puttin' down

Armond Hill was an all-American at Princeton and then played in the NBA. He was an NBA assistant for many years with Woodson. He is a cool dude, one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. He has a lot of basketball knowledge and he's a good friend of Woodson who he trusts. He has the best seat in the house at every game.

It wasn't even like he dragged his pivot foot or something. He took two whole extra steps. It should have been the easiest call they made all night.

IMO this article explains much of the horrible officiating. Last year the ACC brought in over $36 mil from the tourney for 5 of their teams playing 18 games in the tourney (UNC and pUKE to the Final Four) On the other hand the B1G also pulls $36 mil due to 9 teams in the tourney with no teams advancing past the Sweet Sixteen.

So lets let B1G teams beat the crap out of each other and stuff the tourney with more teams (since the conference is SOOO deep) rather than fair officiating and the best teams make it deep into the tourney. Bold strategy, but will never result in a championship for a B1G school and the drought will continue.

Factor in fans in the stands and TV deals and we start to get a clearer picture.

Oh, I think the conference loves how we have a logjam for 3rd place. It's also the reason you don't see many changes with the officiating even though they hired a director of officiating.

I like Banks more than Gunn for sure, but if you talking about playing him instead of Bates, aren't we talking about minutes at shooting guard?  If Gallo or JHS are out, I'm not sure you can really pair them with Banks at the 2.

Agree.

Professional wrestling has their 'go home' shows where they end on a note where the fans are supposed to be happy about the ending of the last match.  I'm not sure that should be the goal of a college basketball league.

IU isn't as good as their results at home and they aren't as bad as their results on the road.  Pretty much can be said for every team in the Big Ten.  Check the KenPom home court advantage stats.  13 of the 14 teams in the Big Ten rank in the upper half of all D1 teams in terms of how much better they play at home than on the road.  No Big Ten team is ranked above 200th in that category.

Basic rule of thumb is that home court is worth 3 1/2 points in conference, which means teams are play 7 points worse on the road than home.

Perception - we've hired someone to clean this up but it's going to take time is the officiating way of saying it'll take 3 years to never to learn the defensive scheme.
