We already have two top 100 freshman playing quality minutes.

You may not appreciate it, but the coaching staff sees him, Kopp, Race, and Geronimo in practice all the time, and those guys play ahead of him.

To be fair to the loaded sandwich, our top 100 guys were both top 30 guys, and it’s much more common for those guys to produce as freshmen. When I hear ‘top 100’ player, I think of guys toward the bottom half of the top 100. Otherwise you’d just say top 30, top 50, etc. We get these top 100 guys like Duncomb and Banks who just never play as freshmen. And part of it may be that the IU commit tag elevates them into the top 100 when they wouldn’t ordinarily be there, who knows.

Agree!

I think it boils down to Woody has a really really deep roster this year with 10 top 100 ranked players (only Xavier Johnson, Leal, and Gunn are three stars). So with X out he still has ten four/five star players + Gunn as his current choices and something has to give regarding minutes.

Gunn wasn't lined up to get a chance until ... now he is. I expect Banks to get a real opportunity at some point this year too, but the chances get far lower if Kopp keeps playing really well (and he is) and with Race a steady key rotation piece. Without injuries Banks is fighting Race, Kopp, and Geronimo for minutes at the same position.

Next year we lose TJD, Kopp, and Race, and if Banks is any good there will be minutes galore available for him.

Banks ended up ranked 91st in his class. He moved up one spot a few days after his commitment from 93 to 92.. but then fell all the down to 130 after that, made a climb to 74th and then eventually found his way to 91st.

Other guys around him?

100. Austin Nunez- contributing a little in about 16 mpg for Arizona State

98. KyeRon Lindsay- had been playing pretty well actually. Seems to have had done injuries or something maybe. Was playing about 20mpg and averaging 6ppg, 5rpg and shooting 50% from 3 for Georgia.

97. Lamar Washington- also contributing a little. About like Nunez in 14mpg.

96. AJ Storr- giving St Johns 6ppg and shooting about 47% from 3... 6 points is really all he's contributing but I guess that's something for them to give him 14mpg

95. Fletcher Loyer- Huge part of Purdues success. Averaging 13ppg.

93. Cameron Corhen- contributing for Florida State in 22mpg. FSU isn't very good this year but they are now 2-1 in the ACC oddly enough. Though one of those games was against Louisville so not sure if even counts.

92. Mike Sharavjamts- contributing for Dayton in 27mpg

3 dudes in from of him, 2 barely play and 1 is redshirting.

Which is BS to me. Let's face it, Race is getting minutes because he's an upperclassmen. He's not produced or really even played well outside a couple games. His defense and energy level has been poor. Geronimo has really been the same. The reluctance to play Banks is just pure stubbornness on Woody.

So given 25 mins and offense ran through him... Banks would have produced 18p 10r? Or whatever Race's #s were.

The bold is crazy man.

I'm not saying he absolutely would. But I bet he could do what Geronimo has done. And don't skim over the fact that Race hasn't been anywhere near what was expected of him .. considering he's supposed to be our "tough, energy" guy... He's been the opposite.

Meh.  Banks is just the player that LCS has decided he's going to use this year to say that Woodson is coaching wrong.  If it wasn't Banks, it would be someone else.

I don’t think it’s that damning an explanation.

But what I do think is that fanbases routinely fall into “backup QB syndrome;” the mindset that the guy that hasn’t been on the court/field much yet and therefore hasn’t screwed up on video is a better choice than the guy I see making plays I don’t like.

I've never said Banks was better. Or would be better. But I do think putting Races butt on the bench would kick his butt into gear some. I also thinks Banks is someone that'll thrive at the 4. I get everyone wants this big and tall team, but our last two B1G title teams have not been that.

Yes I get what you’re saying. Race has been objectively bad for most of the season and something has to change. Sitting him on the bench and getting banks experience is a pretty reasonable move

Race is getting about 80% of the minutes he had last year and his stats are at about 80% of last year's.  Not sure why that's a big surprise.  And statistically, his last three games are among the best he's put up this year.

I agree he has looked better recently.

but also I think fans are tired of the same results from the same players. This is Race’s 4th year of getting major minutes with Trayce and the results really haven’t been all that great.

so in some ways it’s like, hey maybe something should change?

This fanbase has been as negative as possible this week lol. Let’s just get a win and enjoy Christmas we can complain again after the new year

After that it’s a Happy New Year so let’s not be negative if we lay turds all over the court. Then before you know it it’s the Big 1.o stretch and conference/NCAA tourney time. Need to be positive to support the boys!

Feels like we’ve done this for 50% of the last 4 decades. It seemed to have worked out well for us so let’s keep doing it!

50% of the first four posts is the fanciest  way I’ve ever seen for the word “two”.

First of many solid deflection posts.

We’re not far from being elite but we’re opening game posts with how some cupcake can be dangerous or a trap game. Let’s all make sure we turn to the same page in or excise manuals if we don’t have a good performance.

50% of the first four posts cautioning of mighty Kennesaw State.. weird.

Maybe we could impose our will on them, force the ball inside and get them in foul trouble while playing solid team defense and keeping them off the glass.

We’re close to elite status..

People are freaking out because of the number of blowout losses for favorites so far this season.
