I'm also not sure why the people disappointed by JG are not also equally disappointed by MR's play over the last few games? To me he's been bad offensively.

JG is a junior now. He is what he is at this point. MR is a freshman who is multiple time more talented.

Geronimo was getting 15-20 minutes against the cupcakes around 8 minutes against tougher competition. It’s not rocket science JG is simply not good enough to play big minutes.

Completely disagree, and the stats, as well as what he did in the NCAA tourney ( and B1G tourney) last year (when Woodson said he "discovered" JG) say otherwise. What is clear is that Woodson went on offense last night, and that for whatever reason JG hasn't fully earned his trust yet

Two bright spots from last nights game

1. The team has grit and can be very good if they can clean up the stupid mistakes.

2. Tamar Bates after a slow start, played really well offensively. You could see his confidence growing.

He a junior now. Have you looked at his stats? Minimal improvement from freshman year to now.

Geronimo is only 6'6' and the Arizona front line guys are 6'11'" and 7'. Woodson didn't play Geronimo more because it was clear when he was in the game that he didn't have the size to cover these guys. It was a match-up problem. It had nothing to do with whether or not he is good enough or has the coach's trust.

Last year he averaged 4.4 points/3.6 rebounds/0.7 blocks/0.3 steals/0.3 assists in 12.6 mpg.

This year he’s averaged 5.1 points/2.2 rebounds/1.1 blocks/1.0 steals/0.1 assists in 13.0 mpg.

His stats this year only look decent because of the cupcakes. In the 5 games we’ve played against legitimate teams, here are his stats:

Xavier: 1 point, 1 rebound, 0 blocks, 0 steals, 0 assists in 5 minutes.

UNC: 2 points, 2 rebounds, 2 steals, 0 blocks, 0 assist, 4 fouls (in 11 minutes).

Rutgers: 2 points, 0 rebounds, 0 blocks, 0 steals, 0 assists in 11 minutes.

Nebraska: 1 point, 0 rebounds, 0 blocks, 0 steals, 0 assists in 9 minutes.

Arizona: 2 points, 1 rebound, 1 steal, 0 blocks, 0 assists in 8 minutes.

Geronimo has not been nearly good enough for you to constantly clamor for him the way that you do. 8 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals, 0 blocks, and 0 steals across 5 games. He hasn’t done anything this year to earn Woodson’s trust.

Take away 32 points against Morehead State, Bethune Cookman, and Little Rock and he's averaging under 3 ppg.  He's scored 19 points total the rest of the season.  He hasn’t earned more minutes.

You always seem to have one player on the team that you think deserves more PT. Before JG, it was Hunter. I think JG is getting about the PT that he's earned. The coaches put him in to give him a chance and then he doesn't play well so they yank him. He's very athletic but just not that skilled.

Missing JHS is killing us, it’s night and day. Healthy we are a strong team, not a FF team but a SW16 team easily. The one thing that is bothering me is the unwillingness to play and further develop JG, it’s a mistake. Against this kind of team, running and scoring bigs, we are at a disadvantage without our athletic bigs. Ren is getting there , the foul rate will go down, JG needs more floor time

Missing JHS definitely hurts. There is a reason he starts and plays so many minutes. I don't think it's the reason we lost at Rutger or against Arizona. Rutger mucked up the game and frustrated TJD while Arizona had the bigs to matchup with TJD. Who knows with a freshman on the road or in a big game like this whether he would have made enough positive plays to keep it within single digits. His defense is definitely missed but that doesn't help Gallo getting beat on a back cut, Kopp not being able to stay in front of his man, Race giving up back cuts, and us being unable to rebound.

TJD came out of the game in the first half and the e and e completely changed. We started flying around and getting scrappy. TJD when things are going well he is fantastic. TJD when playing against similar or smaller size is fantastic. TJD when going up against size hasn't been great. Maybe JHS playing helps XJ who needs to figure out what's going on and start leading this team. When he goes this team goes. When TJD and XJ both are just there we can get taken to the woodshed by good to great teams.

Are we a skilled team? Are we a team trying to out-athlete other teams? Are we a team that is incredibly disciplined and will beat you that way? What is our identity?

I think some people just get overly wrapped up in a player's athleticism and think the player can do more than they've shown.  Geronimo is an athlete trying to learn how to become a basketball player, but he's a junior and has yet to turn that corner; at this point it may be he is what he is, very athletic but limited in terms of skill.

Fair enough.  But MR wasn't bringing anything last night so why not give JG some extended run?  If he hits a couple of 3s and slams one down maybe it is the "push" he needs?

It's crazy to see how much talent Arizona lost from last season and how good they are this season. Solid program

Just amazing what a wad of cash can get ya.

Seems like Arizona had a whole team of foreign players
They are besides Ramey, Henderson and couple guys that don't play. I actually wish IU could get some of these type of big guys. They seem to be more developed and skilled than domestic bigs.

Hunter is averaging 3 ppg and getting about 10 minutes a game at Xavier. These guys usually aren’t any better at another program.

We've been fouling at a high clip too. The officials have changed but we continue to foul. We can blame it on the Big 1.o or whatever but it remains an issue. We have to clean that up along with rebounding. We've given up several O rebounds on FTs, that's not good.
