They Fired Tom Allen!

The reality of the matter is Allen isn't going anywhere -- unless he has some sort of epiphany, realizes he's in way over his head and resigns.

Dolson has proven quite adept at fundraising (witness getting alumni to pony up $10M to fire Archie), but I have a difficult time believing he'd be able to get nearly $21M to fire the football coach. And if CTA is let go before the end of next season, that's what he's owed.

Heck, even if we tried to make a move after next season, it'd still cost almost $8M.

Perhaps -- and this would be a big if -- the sides could agree that this isn't working and negotiate a lesser buyout? Not sure how, or if, that would work. But that seems to be the only hope at this point.

The thing is you don't have to give him all 20 mil at once. It would be paid out until end of his contract contract which I think is 2027

Yes. I realize he won't get all $20M at once.

Still, that's a lot of money. And I don't know if our financials are in better shape than three years ago, but Dolson had to get donors to pony up the $10M to fire Archie.

I am sure it was a easier to find money for the basketball program than it will for the football program. Also have to ask the question will you lose more money by keeping him over than firing him this year.

I wanted Allen gone yesterday but call me skeptical if he is gonna get fired this year.

Would love to see Pamela Whitten summon Scott Dolson to her office and say:

"Look, I know we're not going to go to a bowl every year. We might not even have a winning record every year. But this current situation is not sustainable. A school this size needs to have football achieve a certain level of success, and we are not close to that.

"The product we put out there on the field each week is embarrassingly bad.

"You created this mess with that contract extension. Now, GD it -- YOU FIX IT!"

(Won't happen, but we can dream, can't we?)

Pretty sure that Dolson is already thinking exactly this mindset.

I get the buyout is too much, but honestly if this program keeps Tom Allen for another year I am afraid to see what IU football will look like in 2024 and beyond. I think they are better off firing him after this year...It sucks. I wasn't a Tom Allen fan at first. But 2019 and 2020 fooled me. Turns out, it was more so Kalen, Kane, and Penix.

I know Indiana Football will never be able to compete for a B1G title..but you are telling me they can't be a consistent team that makes a bowl game?

With the new schedules? It'll be rare to win more than 1-2 Big Ten games a year.

Emotional psych.  I suppose no matter how much money one makes….losing and losing to the point of not really being competitive at the level of competition required….eventually takes its toll mentally and emotionally and physically to the point not only is the team and individual psychic is amidst in confusion and chaos…but the head coach psychic is also amidst in hopelessness grinding out his contract with assistant coaches in the balance of do I stay or keep my eyes open and focus for future opportunities as time marches on to the next IU football coaching era.

Just heard this from a buddy of mine who knows someone who was close to the recruitment of a certain Indiana HS QB recruit going elsewhere. He said IU was his worst visit by a mile. Said they run practice like a middle school. "Completely disorganized sh*t show." If that's what in state recruits have to say, IU really needs to move on asap.

That would have to be the QB at either Cathedral (Colorado) or the Center Grove QB(Duke)

Allen took over an IUFB program that was in pretty good shape (for IU) with back to back bowl appearances. He has utterly torpedoed the program. He shouldn’t coach another game here. Dude owes everything to Penix and DeBoer.
He is beyond awful. They may not win another game this year

I saw somewhere on Twitter today…. That in 2022 IU made 34.3 mil in profit from athletics. Any credibility to that. Also if that’s the case… A buyout might not be as hard as it seems.

Somebody post the list in a thread on here somewhere. IU at the top of the list.
