His return was discussed this afternoon on 247 and the gist of the response regarding his return was January is a possibility. To me, that wasn't a ringing endorsement and I would continue to recommend you not hold your breath. Ok, I'll stop holding my breath..lol Yeah, that doesn't sound promising at all. Hope to see Drake soon though..hopefully. Tks for the info! Class of '66 Old Fart 1 Quote
Pagoda Posted Thursday at 03:11 PM Posted Thursday at 03:11 PM Not sure where to post this, but he loved Indiana basketball so may as well put it here. Ken Nunn passed away. He was a Bloomington legend with his personal injury commercials and bus ads, Rolls Royce he'd drive around town, and he donated quite a bit to IU. I never met him but he was a character. This means considering if these guys are any good and worth the money. I don't know if this player is. As Coach Cig once said: "You tell me what the rules are, and I'll thrive within the rules." Just eyeballing this, two-way players make around ~$650K, and if they have no hope to get called up from the G League to the NBA I can see why they might want to get switch to college and use up any eligibility they have left to get ~$1M+ per season. And the guys who are just on G-League contracts don't make much at all and I'd think all of them would prefer college ball. But yea, I'll say it again, it stinks for the college game. Trentyn Flowers was a teammate of his that year, something like the 4th high school he’d gone to. By blind luck I ended up sitting next to Flowers’ parents. Figured that out when he came over and gave Mom a hug. They couldn’t have been nicer folks. They talked my ear off the entire game. When I asked about his recruitment, because what the hell, Mom said that if it was purely a basketball decision it would be Creighton because they loved McDermott, they loved the facilities and the offense and Trent felt really comfortable there. But, it wasn’t going to be Creighton because, as Dad flat out told this stranger, “They don’t have nearly enough money.” He made it 100% clear that the biggest check was the only factor. He thought it was gonna be KU but the process was ongoing. They were as transactional as it gets. Then U of L swept in with, presumably, the biggest check and Flowers reclassed to ‘23 and committed. He was on campus for a couple of months before he split for the Australian League. So, I believe he’s 20 and has played for 4 high schools, was on a college campus, played in the Australian League and has been with a couple of NBA orgs. Long way of saying, if you were gonna bet on what 2-way guy would break the barrier and take the college money and run, this is probably your guy. Here’s the thing: he really looks the part and he’s a talented kid but he’s not particularly good. He flashes everything you want but with the exception of a short stretch in the ABL he’s never actually done it anywhere. If DDV is looking at this, ok, I guess, but I really don’t know what you should be expecting. 8bucks, Home Jersey, str8baller and 1 other 3 1 Quote

The guy "has been with a couple of NBA orgs" and now wants to come back to play in college and the NCAA et al is fine with that? I fully understand that the NCAA is, at best, a paper tiger, but, dang, son... Now guys are suing the NCAA and schools for more eligibility, when we're already seeing 6 and 7 year "seniors", COVID year notwithstanding. We now have an absolute free agency situation in college that puts the MLB/NBA/NFL free agency to shame. No salary cap, just general free-for-all environment that makes it hard to stomach being a fan of any school or program. This gimme gimme gimme, "Who's on first" scenario has ruined "amateur athletics". Quote

I’ve been saying it is going to happen for some time. And it will in some manner. I’d previously put the timeline somewhere in the next decade. I might revise that to 1-2 years. If this were happening in football the NCAA would be toast already. But the lines between pro (ie just NFL) and college are much more “bright” there and players already have to stay 3 years.
