Could be, look similar to performances earlier in the season where they just laid down. Hopefully, the players coming in magically have that next season.

I’m not worried about the defense being there but Hopefully we have some guys who can hit the 3 next year!

This.

By the end of the season our two most effective three point shooters were Xavier Johnson and Race Thompson.

X and Race have some real skills, but they should never be the two most effective three point shooters.

I think our defense next season might depend on who plays the 5. TJD covered for a lot of what our wings couldn't do. Getting more athletic on the wing could certainly help and having Geronimo at the 4 could help protecting the rim. Our offense needs to be more dynamic.. Making 3s will help but a big that can get a bucket will be important too. We've had good to great inside or out but have rarely had both.

Uh, better players don't have to help as much and can recover better.  Get it?

If it was just one or two players it would be one thing but it was almost our entire team, even the players that were more athletic. Is that being taught? Will better players get themselves into worse positions and not be able to recover? Will there be a standard that they even have to give full e and e or will it be okay like it was for halves and games this past season?

I fear my exchange above will be taken as me making the excuse that we were fatigued. I’ll reiterate a comment in my first post that probably got lost….fatigue isn’t what lost that game. Maybe it played a part in our performance but we got boat-raced and outclassed everywhere. I was only arguing that comparing ND’s situation and ours is just ridiculous.

First bolded portion is basically pretty much what everyone has said.  I think maybe one poster has implied that it was the difference in the game...literally everyone else has said that IU played tired but it was irrelevant in who won the game.

Second bolded portion:  Some people like creating strawman and red herring arguments.

Exactly!  Hopefully CMW addresses it and hopefully Kopp and Stewart go elsewhere!

It needs to be both!  Hopefully Trayce comes back for one more year!

Completely agreed with the first part but not the second. Sure, it's not the exact same situation but it's in the conversation. Some had this game as a win-win the moment we were announced in the play in round of the tourney.

It's crazy Richmond won 4 to get the auto qual and then took down that mighty Iowa squad for their 5th game in 8 days.

If he returns hope we have a stretch 4 that can space the floor for guards/wings to attack. We need to modernize that offense even with "better" players.

That would mean an overall of the current roster.  That might mean a mass exodus, which probably won’t happen.

How so? Despite what we've seen here for the past half decade it's possible for players to make jumps in ability over the summer. Geronimo needs to work on overall consistency but isn't that far from a starting Big 1.o player. I really like a lot of what Gallo does but he's lacking a consistent jumper. IF/when he gets that he'll be a menace to opponents because he really knows angles to attack and does a lot of other things. Bates will need to put in some work but has a lot of potential. It'll be interesting to see how much time he'll be able to put towards that with everything that is about to come in his life. Leal might never be a rotation player at the Big 1.o level but he can be an All-Big 1.o level teammate pushing others to get better.

I’m not talking about everyone, sorry I didn’t mean to give you that impression.

I don't know about the team, but I'm in a state of total exhaustion following all the back and forth in this thread with nothing new being added, just re-hashing the re-hash.  We got whipped and outplayed.  That's life in the D1.

Kinda, but it really isn’t. The way we got whipped and outplayed was really something special. We were arguable whipped and outplayed worse than any team in the tournament

What do you think the root cause was for the whipping?

I have a feeling we're going to see quite a bit of shakeup this off-season due to player and/or coach's decision.

That’s more in line of what I meant, you just put it better.  Who do you think will leave, voluntarily or un-voluntarily?

Players quit when momentum swung and we didn’t have an answer. 8-10 turned to 30 as St Mary’s got hot and we provided no resistance.
Unfortunately this coincided with Woodson’s Mass substitution. Our guys aren’t necessarily mentally tough. It snowballed.

UCLA treating them like the team they are.

The way UCLA is handling St. Mary’s leads us all to believe the fact you are correct, we flat out quit.  We made St. Mary’s look better than they are, we made them look like a Final 4.  We competed against every team on or schedule, except for Michigan at home and St. Mary’s.

I agree about the toughness but I thought we were slowly getting there towards the end of the season
