IUBB @ Northwestern - 02/08/22 @ 9:00 ET on BTN

Recommended Posts

IU Baseball opens its season on the 18th in Clemson, SC.

This IUBB team is an enigma / inconsistent / puzzling / frustrating / maddening / driving me to drink (more) / all of the above.  Northwestern (11-10) (4-8) but has won its last 2 games -- 79-78 in OT over Rutgers at home and 87-63 on the road at Nebraska.  Can we put 2 good halves together on the road?

Northwestern has been a match-up mystery for the Hoosiers the last few years.  This one scares me on the road.  The wildcats have nothing to lose.

Audige is a wing that could easily get going against us with who we'll have defending him to begin the game. Hopefully, they don't put us in rotations like Michigan did and then light us up with WIDE OPEN looks all night. Young is crafty in the post and could have TJD jazzercising his way to the bench. Buie, Nance, and Greer (sp?) can hit from deep. Buie can streak with the best of them.

Let's see if we can force our style and tempo on them or we sit back and allow them to do what they want.

If I remember right, Audige looked like an All-American against us in AH last year.  Well for that matter so did, Kopp.

Hopefully Kopp returns the favor.  If anyone has hot spots in Evanston, HE SHOULD!

Hopefully he makes a shot IF he takes a shot. I'm sure there will be some hungry Wildcats wanting to put it on him.

What do you think?

Nance  --  Race/Geronimo

Young --  TJD

Buie --  X

Aduige -- Parker/Trey

Greer -- Kopp/Bates

Beren and Roper, not Young and Greer have been starting. Young is way too slow to defend TJD. Northwestern usually finishes with different game closing players than the starters (if Young, Berry, Greer, or Williams are playing well), but so do we. It's kinda like us in that they have three players who start and finish: Nance, Buie, and Audige will finish and we will have Trayce, Race, and X finish.

For starters:

  • Nance - Race
  • Beren - Trayce
  • Roper - Kopp
  • Audige - Parker
  • X - Buie

I forgot about Beren.  All those guys can hit the 3.

Seems to me that the constant early whistles took the wind out of IU's fast break.  IU got lucky by being up by 2 at the half.  TJD never got into the flow of things because of Illinois' 300 lb Kofi.  And Kofi was allowed to elbow and walk all night.  With no fast break...and not dominant in the middle...guys just stood around...  IU is really a one trick pony.  And the pony came up lame. I was hoping that Kofi would get whistled for fouls.  But, TJD got frustrated and was called for his.

TJD and Race need to be able to roam around.  If they don't...what is IU to do?  Hit 3's?  Yeah, right.

Not blaming anyone.  Cheering for ole IU!  But we need excellent recruiting.  Help is on the way.  Right?  Right?  uh...  yeah.  I hope.
