It is sad at this stage of Terry’s career at Indiana that Yarden doesn’t consider this a title contending team at this juncture. Something’s Gotta give.

Its the reality. It was a title contending team for five years Holmes was here and in a bit of a rebuild now. Nothing is 'sad' that in year 11 they are a notch below title contention after spending years 6-10 as one. Teams go through rebuilds as even the best do such as Maryland did for a couple years before this one.

Moren may build a title contending team again in next year or two depending on who comes in via portal and recruiting (note the recruits this year are much higher ranked then the past).

Next couple years will be telling but don't align with Yarden's timeline heading into her final year. I agree this is a critical point in Moren's tenure to get 'bigger and more athletic' as she talked about after South Carolina loss but speaks nothing of any issues.

Ohio State and Notre Dame just had their top player enter portal. Its the norm now and says very little about state of team or player.

Not wanting to finish her career at Indiana makes me lose respect for her. IDC if others don't agree. We don't have to accept everything, nor do we have to support everything.

Go be forgotten somewhere else

Tough since we are likely, hopefully, going to be pulling in a lot of kids who are leaving their school to come play for IU mens BBall.  Do we lose respect for them for the same reasoning?

There is much validity in that…..especially given the coaching, support and respect at IU she has received.  Credit T. Moren and staff for craftily pushing her to be the player she is.

There are many situations and circumstances with players (and coaches) that fall into these kinds of categories.

(T. Moren discovered Garzon from a contact in Fort Wayne, Indiana coaching AAU ball and zoom calls.

I don’t know if I would consider us a title contending team for 5 years? Maybe if you reach the sweet 16 several times. Terry is a great coach, but she might not be good at team management, and if she’s not she needs to bring somebody in who is.

She seems to be recruiting the same type of players that have not been getting us anywhere elite.

it doesn’t really matter if teams like Notre Dame lose their top couple players because they will replace them and be back in the hunt, we haven’t been able to come close.

Ryan Conwell has had 2 different HCs leave him, hard to compare him to Yarden.

Sounds harsh.....but yes. For example, I don't care about Ballo as a human being. I don't wish him ill, but he was a one -year mercenary rent a player that will be forgotten in 15mins. So are (fill in the blank with almost everyone else on the roster) Sheesh, Reneau spent 3yrs at "University of Indiana" and still feels like temp. The fabric of the game has been torn by several factors. We are now at the place where they are no longer "college kids', they are highly paid and most have 0 loyalty. So my position is "I don't care about your hopes and dreams or your personal issues, just shut-up and win, and if you don't, I'm going to savage you online, whatever your name is."  I hate that it's come to this, but as Seinfeld said years ago, I am cheering for the jersey, not the players anymore. I don't care about them anymore than they care about me.

I think if they come here and do well we will embrace them much like we did Keith Smart (granted 2 yeas but only 1 really garnered his fame here) and if they leave we will feel as CSP posted about Yarden and much like we did for kids who transferred back under the old format like Recker.

Come here and win, we love you.  Choose to leave us and who care about you.

Correct. This is how it works. It's reality. I'm under NO obligation to support her when she isn't an IU athlete.

I will ask... you've been to many girls games the past 3 years? Truly my own curiosity.

I had not been to any girls games, and maybe watched a couple on TV for the first 55 years.  I moved to Florida 3 years ago and so going to mens or womens games has not been on my radar since moving.  I do record all the girls games that are on TV down here and have watched about as many of those as I did guys games this year.

The team was good enough to win a title. That does not mean they did it. They made an Elite Eight and barely missed a Final Four. They just miss winning a game against SC in Sweet 16 who went on to win title. Title contender does not mean winning it (ask 2013 IU men), it means having a roster good enough to do so and IU did. They did reach several Sweet 16's making it at least that far 3 out of 4 years (and three is 'several' by definition) which no one has done in any sport outside men's soccer since Knight.

IU has replaced several players throughout multiple era's and each time gotten better. Clearly they are in a rebuild and need to do it again but Moren has shown she can do that.

This is a huge offseason to continue to be a good or great team and Moren presser after South Carolina seems to say she understands that and hopefully proof will be in pudding.

Everything people have complained about she has adjusted to. First it was she couldn't get the best Indiana high school players. Now she is. Other complaint was needing to be more athletic which was huge part of that final presser. Like with Indiana players you would assume she follows through and we see more athletic players going forward.

Lets see what roster looks like after portal season before any judgements., but past indications seem to indicate she will follow through and adjust to what is needed to keep winning but proof will indeed need to be seen.

Girls athletics started to grow on my when our daughters started playing their sports at higher levels.  The guys are quicker, more athletic etc but for top girl teams there is something pretty cool about the way that game is played.

As with most things, it's likely complex and not just one thing:

  • A situation with "some jackwagon on the men's team" that IU did not handle well in her eyes.
  • A few of her very best friends on the team, Parrish, Meister, Bargesser, and Sandvik, are not returning. Also tight with Mack, who will likely not be on staff.
  • This is going to likely be the biggest earning year of her career and she wants to maximize it.
  • We are not likely a title contender - that could be a factor.

Good analysis:

*another factor: her sister, Lior, transferred at least twice, from Villanova to Ok. State to Colorado. Maybe more?

*for all the true old fogeys here, remember '76 Hoosiers who won National Championship? Scott May, et al. were Seniors and only Kent Benson was a Junior. He came back and it was a miserable, underachieving year. He probably regretted it.

*"Show me the money!" yes, why not?

*contender? If she went to LSU or Texas or even Duke, it's not a sure thing she would have great PT. At IU, she was "the man"; elsewhere--I don't know.

This sucks. That’s all I’ve got

Ah the sun will come out tomorrow. not sure where yardens going, but if she wants a championship she’s going to be in the role she was her freshman year here as purely a role player. Kind of a system player. Tall but too weak and scrawny to really be a post player, and too slow, gangly to play the other positions. Has some tricky moves that awe you sometimes, good with her hands, but her feet do not do her any favors. Overall great at spot up from 3 but if you want to get down to it her shooting form is god awful and has a really slow release there too. Can do some cool short fadeaways sometimes.
