We were the first program to implement a plan for the NIL and that was way before this became a rule

That’s nice and all but means zero if the plan is not backed up by donors paying meaningful cash to utilize players in their company advertisements, for appearances and/or funneling a bunch of cash to podcasts with the understanding that the talent (ie the players) are paid for the interviews.

I wouldn’t say “you heard it here first” maybe heard it here thousandth. There are a lot of people, including myself that expect big things this year.
I don’t expect a first place in the Bigten nor a final four but I do expect a top 5 in the BigTen and a top 7 seed in the tourney. I never felt that way under Archie, never had high hopes. I think this team will compete night in and night out and get us caring a bit more than the past 5 seasons.
what I don’t like is what type of reload is in store for us after this year. We should be crushing recruiting with us likely losing 5/6 best players after this year. We have some good pieces coming in but cannot afford to take a big step back, it will crush momentum
We won't necessarily take a step back after this season with the transfer the way they are now. We have a good season maybe we bring in talent next season

He’s absolutely right. John Beilein is a HOF college coach and  he was flat getting handled in the League. Am in no way worried about Woodson getting out coached.

I believe this somewhat, but not 100%.  In one of Coach's early pressers, he asked what a packline defense was because he'd never heard of it.  We play Syracuse this year and he's never coached against a zone.  So I still have some doubts.

You really seem obsessed with these guys and it’s clear you hate them. Got it. Do you really think fans of other schools, like Duke and UK, are laughing at us about the Hoosier Hysterics (or even have the slightest idea who they are?).  I’ll bet Cameron is just buzzing about the HH guys and not even thinking about coach K’s last season. LOL.

To compete we need to be viable in the NIL arena. These guys, unlike all of us posters, tried. If they flame out others will hopefully pick up the torch. If we start out winning literally NO ONE will care about tonight or any of the HH videos. Winning will cure all.

I absolutely hate that the basketball program has decided to join forces with these two guys. They regularly harass recruits, they put out cringe video after cringe video, and they’re jerks to random band kids. People talk about how crazy fans on social media can hurt the program with recruiting but then give these two guys huge passes for their behavior. They're two of the worst violators. If you don’t want to read my posts hating on them in a thread about their event then just keep scrolling. I’m going to be vocal about the university partnering up with guys who tweet at high school recruits to tell them that they want to get matching BFF tattoos and name their kids after them. Guys who, less than two months ago, cornered a recruit, stuck a phone in his face, and put him in a very uncomfortable situation. It’s not normal behavior. I’d say we could talk about the event instead, but doesn’t sound like there’s much to talk about in that regard.

It should be a comma/journalism etc class to do interviews with players, do podcasts etc and put that content out via IU media channels and start building internally. That way, you get the students involved, get them real world experience and build a product that you can control

If someone already addressed this, I apologize -- but I wasn't sure what all had been discussed in this thread.

On the surface -- again, that's without much of a deep dive into this event or what's been discussed here -- it seems to me as if this Fan Fest could've been held at any time. Maybe even last weekend, when the football team was out of town. I realize that's when we had our secret scrimmage against Belmont -- but you can have that at any time as well.

I wonder if our time this weekend wouldn't have been better served with an exhibition game? Or maybe do a Fan Fest on Friday, followed an exhibition Saturday. Or game Saturday, Fan Fest on Sunday? Or any combination of that over the past 3-4 gays? The Colts aren't playing today, so there's no concern there.

Man, I saw that the Toiletmakers played UIndy the other day -- and Mackey was sold out and was rocking. Kinda weird/disappointing to see photos of yesterday's event in front of what looked to be a very sparse crowd.

Not sure of the logistics of everything and rules about exhibitions and scrimmages and what not, so maybe this is a naive post ... but I'd definitely feel more comfortable going into Tuesday night with some game experience under our belts -- more than just a scrimmage.

That is NIL… it’s paying players and other schools have been good at it for a while. Now that it is legal, we have no excuse

if football schools can muster enough money to support a gazillion football players and have enough left over for basketball to outkick  us… that is pretty sad

It's not legal for schools to pay players and it's not legal to give a kid nil $ to come, or to stay. If you sign a 4 year contract with JHS I don't believe remaining a student at Indiana can be a condition of the contract.

What's legal is for the student to get paid for their name, image and likeness in various ways.

Indiana doesn't (didn't) have people sitting around with the illegal $ ready to hand out. Cheating schools did. so they just hand it out now.

Hoosiers that don't want to cheat aren't going to apportion recruitment $.

That's the thing about the transfer portal, we could have a Oladipo/Sheehey 3 star freshman class and still bring in a ton of super talented, proven upper classmen, that fill every hole.

Teams are allowed 2 preseason events.  Scrimmages or exhibition games.   IU staff went the scrimmage route this year.  In years past IU always played the 2 exhibition games because they treated them like 2 home games and could make ticket money and concession money.   My guess would be since they canceled the first scrimmage they didn’t have enough time to set up an exhibition game.   My guess would be that since they were banged up that the staff decided not to do another scrimmage.  Remember since they did a foreign trip in the summer they got 8 extra practices and played 2 extra exhibition games other teams didn’t get.   Teams can only do foreign trips every 4 years I believe

Main reason I am disappointed at crowd size is we need these kids to make alot of money. Future recruiting will depend on how well kids are getting compensated. Just my opinion

Plenty to talk about from the event last night.  Lots of  fans had fun, kids got to shoot on Assembly Hall, Coach Knight was introduced, 3 point contest was fun to watch and Durr’s shot is much better then I remembered him having at South Florida.  Most importantly the players seem to enjoy themselves and liked the event. Much more important that the players like it then us message board posters. Lots of areas for improvement but looked like a fun time to be had.

I think posters being pissy towards the Hysterics is coloring their attitudes about the event.

Hoosier Hysteria usually has upwards of 12k and Haunted Hall of Hoops seemed to have about 2-3k and half of those were kids in costume.

Considering the pandemic et al, I don't think yesterdays event was a bust at all, in terms of attendance. And it certainly wasn't for those who attended (unless they were unaware of the cancelled scrimmage).

Ah, you're right -- I forgot about the summer trip. They do have some game experience. Totally slipped my mind.

Yesterday they sold over 3000 tickets and was able to donate a portion to the boys and girls club.  They were able to bring 100 kids from the boys and girls club.   They were happy with the overall number that the players were able to make.   This was the best attended event like this that the company they used has had this year and they were happy.   Next year they are hoping to do it at the same time as a home football day game.    This is according to Eric on Twitter minutes ago.

I would guess this years HH barely had 5000 people attend
