It sounds like you're close to him. Have you ever had discussions in the past about him becoming a D1 HC? Not necessarily at IU, just in general.

He wanted the Evansville job but he asked for a little too much. I think he also wanted the IUPUI job or UINDY job but finished 2nd. You have to understand he is a very private person.

I really wish he would have gotten the Evansville job so we have a better idea of what he is as a coach. Even if he would have been mediocre there it is still experience that he could bring to the table. If he knocked it out of the park, well then this is a no brainer.

I know I will get beat up for this but what if he would be the interim head coach till the real coach could take over this summer, then he would go to associate head coach.

That would be a great situation IMO.  Much better than him just being the head coach.

I might be able to get behind a Calbert hire.

Someone talk me into it.

Well he was on the staff under Crean's best two seasons

I think I come back at times to the things we KNOW are true in this coaching search, and there aren't many:

  • March 21, 2021, 10:59 pm:

  • March 21, 2021, 11:02 pm:

  • About 90 minutes later, at 12:36 am on March 22, 2021:

  1. An Evansville AAU program head with the first tweet.
  2. Followed by a "shhhh" response from an Indy AAU coach, and
  3. A "happiness" follow-up tweet by our Evansville-raised point guard.

I kinda thought this was in regards to Matta , it was like the next day the whole he was offered the job but failed physical came out . I may be totally wrong

That’s the way I read it too.

Just curious--why? Kendrick and Lander are wired in to Evansville. Not sure what their Matta connection could/would be.

Well maybe he could be the interim until a Pete Bell announcement is made.

More about the timing of it all.  Late that night then the Matta stuff happened the next day.

But CC hadn’t even been contacted by IU at that point for an interview.

Cue the "back in my day"! He's right. The Big Ten was not as deep then, but the top teams were better than recent vintages. Not really close, IMO.

Might not be as deep but it was way better overall especially at the top of the league.  This years UM team would probably finished no better than 6th back in 92
