I’ll get flack for this but I’m not saying this to be mean but has it always been a thing for mommy’s and daddy’s to talk to IU reporters? I’m absolutely stealing this from Dakich but it’s almost like it’s an AAU program. I guess that’s how it is now.

It really is annoying. Let the kids speak for themselves and stop going to parents for comments.

Part of it may be the IU medias fault. But I don't remember this being an issue until a few years ago.

This isn’t just an IU media thing this is how it is now and it’s been this way for a coupes years.    I’ve seen many interviews during the recruiting process where the parents control the coverage and then I’ve seen interviews with parents during the season of some of these players while they are playing.   Nature of the beast now

I think you are right. It just seems odds. I didn't like Leal's mom tweeting "play him" or Smith's dad running his mouth. It just creates disfunction.

I would argue that interviews during the recruiting process are different than when they are in college. Indystar should be going to Armaan for comment not his mother. Peegs should be going to Jordan Geronimo for comment and not his mother.

just my opinion though.

Every one of the players, if they are smart, should be in the portal IMO.

Doesn't mean they are gone. Just means they are opening up options.

The new coach will re-recruit each kid, and that's fine.

I think that's the nice way to think of the situation. But let's be honest, we weren't good last year and a new coach isn't going to change that over a year. Our roster was a major attribution to our bad performances, it wasn't all on Archie's shoulders.

The grass will be greener for some of them.

I’d prefer these guys enter the portal before a new coach is named. 1) It’s a bad look if they enter the portal only after he is named, 2) if the new coach communicates to a player he should seek playing time elsewhere, it smooths out the process on both sides.

That said, I want to keep every player (excluding senior Al) that has entered the portal.

We weren’t good last year but the positive is  ...LOL..that when you finish 10th 2 years in a row there is not much farther to fall.

We weren't good the year before either lol..

Times have changed. As much as coaches/teams preach about committing to the school, and not the coach, it's just not reality. And even if they did commit with the school in mind, a major change, especially to the HC, will cause each and every player to rethink things.

And IMO any kid that doesn't look at all his options is pretty silly. Each kid will need to look at his options and see if he fits here, or somewhere else. And if the new coach is a more modern O coach, a kid that chooses to come back amidst all the turnover can still steal the spotlight, even on a losing team.

And I'm not even ready to say we're automatically going to be worse next year. If there was ever a great year to rebuild through the portal, it's this year.

To me it seems like KL will stay. He loves Indiana and that is why he came and probably not for Archie. I don’t think one player really came to play for Archie. They came to play for a school with 5 titles. KL and most of the other players are scared if the new coach is looking for their playing style.
