The Indiana head coaching job became available when Mike Woodson decided to step down as head coach of the Hoosiers at the end of the season. However, a month later, Woodson feels as though he made a mistake by stepping down too early. Regardless of his change of heart, the Hoosiers are now in search of a new head coach, and there's no way around it.

Woodson questioning his own decision to step down raises concerns. While Woodson ultimately chose to step down, it certainly seems as if the head coach is regretting his decision. The fourth year head coach is going to take his team as deep as he can for this last run.

omg this came up on my you tube feed and woever these clowns are they say woodson needs another year.  Pure comedy.

I enjoyed your commentary. Here is an important fact. IU missed the tournament 4 years in a row before Woody got there, and they ran out one of their own, not wonder so many coaches aren't interested in this gig. But you need to mention the context that he has 3 tournaments in 4 years, and they missed the dance 4 years in a row before he got there. This is not IU of the 70's or early 80's

Would be weird to announce a new coach on Monday when the candidates we are hearing about are preparing for a tournament game (and likely IU).

Unless it is someone currently not coaching…

I do think no matter what that Dolson will wait until our season is finished out of respect for the current team and staff. They can wait until the season is done and not take attention away from the guys still playing.

Personally I think the timing of announcing it after selection Sunday and before the start of the tourney makes perfect sense.

Waiting too long to announce it can set the incoming coach back in terms of building a roster and a staff.

Announcing right before the start of the tourney can be great for press. It can take the negative spotlight off Woodson, for starters. It’ll be discussed constantly during halftimes and between games on every channel. Sure it’ll take up some airtime during any game(s) IU plays, but it’s already a known fact that Woodson is done at the conclusion of his last game. I don’t think it’ll be the sort of distraction most folks think. The players and staff are at this point are quite used to the fact that Woodson will be gone.

Also, Dolson knows he can’t hold back the tide forever. Eventually the leaks will come out. Better to set a target date and make sure everyone in the know holds off until then.

But it wasn't at the time... the dude cheated... obviously had an issue with following rules, or was interested in taking a shortcut... and as the leader of the program, he should set the example for his team...

I'm really tired of people justifying rule breaking because "it's legal now"... just because others cheated and didn't get caught or punished is no excuse...

It was legal then too. The rule was actually illegal, it just hadn’t been challenged in court.

Kansas stood by him and didn’t fire him and said let’s fight it. It worked Plus it’s Kansas. Too big of a school to hurt. LSU/Wade was perfect fit to be like “hey guys, stop it. We are serious”

Most big programs do fight it. Look at north carolina and the cheating. The ncaa won't take down big programs unless they self report. They aren't touching money programs. But if you hand it to them on a silver platter they have no choice. Iu screwed themselves whatever you think of sampson they did. Self reporting did them no favors.

Best coach we had since knight run out of town. And he had guys like Elston and Pritchard coming in. Guys who weren't into drugs, etc. It would have worked but iu panicked and has never been the same since
