Chris Hawkins seems to think it will be Jay Wright. Speaking of Hawkins, if he were to ever want to leave Attucks, he'd make a hell of an addition to the IU staff. Especially in some sort of a recruiting capacity. Would absolutely kill it here in Indy area.

Is he one of the coaches Dolson reportedly talked to a few weeks ago?

Jay Wright? There's one guy where I can overlook the age factor. You have me interested and aroused.

Well, let's check in on our last 5 head coaches:

1. MD - journeyman who hasn't sniffed the big time since and was never qualified

2.  Sampson - Ok, maybe one coach capable of coaching IU

3. Crean - fired from Georgia and likely won't coach again.  Coached an NBA HOF'er

4. Archie - sucks at RI and will likely never do much of anything again.  Was worse at his Dayton than his predecessor.

5. Woodson - likely permanently "retired".

I would argue 4 of those guys were never "qualified" to be IU's coach and here we are 25 years later.

They don't necessarily get me super excited from the outset, but I would argue they are more qualified than 4 of the 5 and at least have some tangible results behind them that would at least INDICATE success from their coaching abilities and not just what they stepped into or recruited.

Hang on you forgot Dan Dakich!

Really went out on a limb there didn't he.

Fair enough, but it follows that he doesn't know the name. Nobody does.

Wright would make no sense given the timing of this unless for some reason they let him do the CBS gig thru the tourney.

otherwise it would have been announced Monday.

he is this search’s version of Billy D minus the horse farm

I'm not insider, but FWIW multiple people who I believe are credible have said that the "mystery candidate" is very much on the table, if not the outright leader.

This lines up with Osterman's tweet which more or less threw cold water on the DeVries chatter.

At this juncture it seems to be between "mystery candidate" and Ben McCollum. And many people have said an announcement is forthcoming, within the next 24 hours perhaps. Which would rule out a coach currently in the tournament.

This is just me reading the tea leaves based on info provided by people more plugged in than myself. I do not claim to be an insider.
